just got the 1080 in the mail this morning, hopefully at the end of the week the waterblock and extra 280 rad will arrive. 2x phobya g-charger 280*60 should be enough for a 1080 and 4670k @4.2ghz right?

Installed a Fractal AIO today, and like the retard I am I put a big old gash in the side of the radiator.

I plan on expanding the thing with another 120mm rad and an EK universal gpu block in a few months though, so I'll flip it around to hide the damage when I'm doing so.

>>
>>55884426
The soldered heatspreader or not, makes a massive difference with load temps. Sandy cpu (soldered ihs) with 0.2V higher vcore than Ivy or Haswell (not soldered) can have 20C lower load temps (exact same clocks, same heatsink, same fan@same RPM, but the older having higher vcore, which directly translates to higher power consumption and heat output).

I think all of Corsair's newer stuff is the thicker diameter braided hoses, they are pretty flexible. The Kraken AiOs appear rubber and are probably flexible to.

I added another case fan at the bottom today to suck more air in, maybe move some of the warm air away from the GPU a bit and provide it with some fresh air. Moved the front 140mm fan up a bit too so it pushes across the morbo more.

The morbo temp in speccy is basically my ambient temp right now, so that is part of the reason my temps are high (and coming off the back of doing the benchmarks).

Also, back of the guts photo.

>The PWM controller is an Intersil ISL6379 Digitally Controlled Hybrid 6 phase PWM. There is no datasheet, but I would venture to guess that it is a 6+1 phase PWM. To get 12 phases, manufacturers must double the phase count from the PWM since there is no 12 phase PWM in production for motherboards. ASRock uses 6x Intersil ISL6611A which are phase doublers with integrated dual drivers. This saves a lot of space which is important considering the limited motherboard real-estate of the X99 platform.

>It's pretty amazing that ASRock is using the ISL6379 three times on the board. It is overkill, but should provide very nice voltage control. The memory DIMM's main MOSFETs need drivers and four tiny ones are found on the back of the board. The drivers are Intersil ISL6208.
>The audio is powered by an ALC1150 which compliments the Intel Azalia processor in the PCH and two Texas Instruments NE5532 are used to amplify the backpanel and front panel audio outputs. Eight Nichicon gold 100uF electrolytic audio capacitors are used for the analog domain and the audio circuitry is isolated to reduce noise.

Sad they went what way? It's one of the only motherboards he ever tested with USB 3.0 re-drivers as well as PCI re-drivers and they used pretty overkill parts on most of the rest of the board as well.

>Performance wise, it keeps up with other boards in the performance category; however, where it really shines is storage. The highest M.2 and SATA 6G scores are taken by the MSI X99S-MPower. I did expect as much since MSI used re-drivers to make sure the signal quality stays high. MSI also did a very nice job at ensuring that conflicts between devices stay low, it's possibly one of the only boards I tested where I didn't have to do much tinkering to get the system to boot to my boot drive. The one thing that could be improved is the spacing for SLI/CF; also 3-way performance comes at a price, especially if you use an M.2 drive.

His only real negative on the choice of components was a single chip he couldnt recognize for PCH power. Big deal.

z170 is the chipset required for the overclocking of the K series CPUs.
>>
>>55900022
EVGA has horrible design, sadly. And by "design" I don't mean the colors. Their current series of motherboards doesn't have any internal USB 2.0 headers, which makes the use of many AIO water coolers impossible, only 1 USB 3.0 header, which isn't even enough for the front panel of most cases and the 4 pin CPU power at the bottom, sitting right above the PSU, which makes it unusable unless you move the CPU or something.

Also generally horrible features, like $300 board having realtek audio and the cheapest LAN chipset.

>I hear colored fluid can clog blocks
It's not colored fluid, it's shit tubing. When the plasticizer used in most soft tubing breaks down, it gunks up in the more restrictive parts of the loop like the fins of the blocks. People mistakenly attribute it to the fluid because it winds up getting dyed by the fluid and turning out the same color. It can be avoided by using hard tubing, or certain kinds of soft tubing.

>>
>>55903969
>i've also seen that the orientation of the waterblock can make a difference too, very strange
It has to do with the way that the water channels inside the waterblock are oriented. East-West or West-East usually works better on LGA115X CPUs because more of the fins inside the waterblock get exposed to the heat from the CPU (the physical CPU is a north-south rectangle). Orientation doesn't matter as much on AM3+, FM2/+, and LGA 2011/1366 CPUs since those are more square in shape.

It's all about z170 boards. Sent my z170 deluxe back, because 2 ram slots didn't work. Apparently it's a common issue and half of the boards are DOA.

Gonna buy an MSI xpower now, fuck asus.

that being said, i'd take an asrock over an asus most of the time.

I doubt that's true and even if it was they're ugly. Plus as mentioned above the bios is a chingrish mess.

And every single Asus product I've had is still running. See >>55894795. I don't believe that anyone on this board goes through enough mobos or other components to get an accurate view of the market.

I'm a fractal whore so I just switched to a define s from an arc midi r2. Definitely the best move I ever made.

>Water cooling case
>On air
Should have gotten the R5, that case is wasted on you.
>>
>>55909653
Drive cages just fuck up your laminar airflow. If you don't need the the Define is a fine air cooling case because it fits a shit load of case fans.
>>
>>55910113
Realistically it's still one of my first builds, eventually when I attain more knowledge to overclock I will move to liquid cool. You're freaking out man.

>>55910173
I do believe you get it. It looks great without the drive cages and keeps my 980ti around 36c without the fans spinning thanks to all the fans.
>>
>>55910173
As an air cooling case, the Define S is a waste of space. It has that giant open space at the front of the build intended for radiators, reservoirs, and pumps. Using it on air is a waste.
>>
>>55910492
There aren't many cases that don't have that space. S340 if you want a poorly made POS that looks like it was painted by a brush.
>>
>>55901698
I remember them to look sleek and elegant. Much better than the current ASUS boards, I don't like these "gamer" designs, my Maximus V Formula looks much better than current ones.

I would possibly buy used X99 and plan to build a custom watercooling into it. Sound is not needed, my ASUS Xonar STX will suffice.

ever heard of testing the card before putting a block on it and probably voiding the waranty?
>>
>>55910593
And then posting a pic of it on the internet?
>>
>>55910600
it's still a functional build, is it not? how about you go whine about people getting an aio without even the option of wc'ing their gpu
>>
>>55910539
True, but there are many cases that don't waste it with open space.
>>
>>55910634
You don't need to test it for that long before throwing a block on it. 12-24 hours in a looping benchmark like Heaven or Valley is more than long enough to sniff out any problems. Use a cheap CPU cooler while you're doing that, and then build your loop after. I know Intel doesn't supply stock coolers with K-Series CPUs anymore, but I'm sure most people with enough interest in computers to build a custom loop have an old one lying around somewhere. Building a CPU only loop just to test the GPU before blocking is extra work, because half of that loop is going to get scrapped anyways.

>S340 if you want a poorly made POS that looks like it was painted by a brush.
It's been what.. 3 years since the S340 was released? First time I have ever read a complaint about the paint.

Where the hell do people get these stories? NZXT, ASRock, Corsair, etc. It's getting quite amusing reading the stories one or two people think up as an excuse to shit on a product for whatever reason.

the card took a month to arrive, was supposed to be a zotac amp extreme, but it kept being delayed so changed my mind to a founders edition and watercool it. some parts for the expansion of the loop are in backorder so why wait to put the card in?

S340 still has a fairly big gap at the front. Maybe it looks small because of that wire cover thing. There aren't many cases without it because it limits GPU length and the beast cards are like 300mm+
>>
>>55910776
It's got a gap, but it's nowhere near as big as the one on the Define S. It's certainly not 360mm Alphacool Monsta big.
>>
>>55910799
In the end we are talking about inches. If the empty space bothers you aesthetically I understand but it is there for a functional reason (3x140mm fans in the top)
>>
>>55910823
That space also allows for two 3.5 inch drives in the back mounted horizontally. Anon thinks he knows more about design than the Swedes. Cute.
>>
>>55910839
Correction, 3x3.5 inch drives mounted vertically.

What does that third fan cool? There's nothing in the front to draw heat off of or blow air over. The only justification for it is with a radiator, which only backs up my point that the Define S is a water cooling case, not an air cooling one.

>>55910852
Want to guess how many 3.5" drives could be mounted in that space if it weren't left empty for the sake of radiators and reservoirs? Hint: It's a lot more than three. Face it, the Define S is just a waste of space if you're not water cooling. I'm not saying it's a bad design, I'm just saying you're doing it wrong.

That's a different model. Called the Define S. Doesn't have all the optical bays and crap.

Are there any good cases (that have come out within the past couple of years) that still have drive bays? I've got almost all the parts for my build but I'm considering buying a new case since my old one is showing some wear.

I originally considered the define r5, s340, and carbide 400c but the lack of drive bays for an internal hard drive and usb hub is a no go for me at the moment.
>>
>>55911796
the one i have comes with 6 bays preinstalled, corsair 780t
