Tried it, didn't like it, ran away. (multiple times over the years)

My first proper touch on IRC after that was GNOME-xchat in 2008

Because, the good search engine sites for it dried up. You used to be able to find any file, but when that went away, so did my need for mirc.

irssi and weechat are infinitely better

Hexchat is better and doesn't nag me to pay some fucker every time I open it. However, I will grant that it's still garbage for uploading files to anyone because they never fixed that. Downloading is fine, but go install hexchat and try to send a file to a friend and watch the abysmal speeds.
