perl: the only language that runs just fine normally, encrypted, compressed, corrupted, or even completely overwritten with random data.

Perl is.. special.

Many Perl coders moved to Python or Ruby in the past (personally I think Ruby is a lot like Perl).

But Perl is cool, so if you want to learn it, go for it.
