My apartment complex offers free WIFI, but it's restricted in the sense that I cannot do without things not working correctly. They also block stuff like gaming.
I have discovered, that if I connect to an Ethernet port directly, the blocking does not occur. If I buy a Ethernet to wireless adapter, will I be able to get this connection working through WIFI, or is it a lot more complicated than I am making it out to be?
Yes that'd work.
contact your dorms RA and have that person forward your request to your schools tech team

I am the RA, and funny enough, the manager also agrees with me that the blocking is silly. However, it's nothing we have control over in the sense of unblocking things.
Does anyone have any suggestions for cheap routers/adapters that just werk? Is there a different between a router and an adapter?

Also, would I need a modem or just a router? Since I can connect fine by just plugging my laptop into the wall via Ethernet cable.

>Ethernet to wireless
Wait what?
If you have an Ethernet port all you need to do is plug a cable into it as cable networks are less restrictive.
I'm assuming your in a university and the network you are referring to is Eduroam.
Yeah they block everything.
You can probably get a cheap modem and plug the ethernet cable into it and configure your own wifi.
If not your fucked.

There's no wall port in my room, it's down in a maintenance room-type place. That's why I need wifi.

Any suggestions for specific models?

get a wireless router, plug that into the wall ethernet then connect your comp wirelessly to that router
OP, get a power line adapter and just have the ethernet in your room.
>laptop so no ethernet port
Get a cheap dick the speeds will make it worth it if your on a heavily used network.
