You indeed did, that TIM'd IHS will be a reason for high load temps. 2500K@ 0.2V higher vcore than 4690K (with same clocks) has 20C lower temperature with same heatsink and fan@exact same RPM.
Lower fabrication, lower vcore at same clocks, still shitload higher temps. Yes, its shit.

>>55869931
Also that mobo has shitty vrm and non-working LLC.
>>
>Anything from ASRock
I am afraid you did good sir.
>>
>>55869931
It's also 20% slower. Devil's canyon has much better TIM than ivy and haswell.
>>
>>55869866
Mines been going strong for 2 years no problems.

I have that same motherboard and processor combination. Works just fine.

I don't know, but your parents sure did.
>>
>>55869866

yes
time for a big upgrade is next year socket 2066 SKL-X and optane drives
>>
>>55869931
Why does Intel keep skimping on that shit? It seems like even if you pay them hundreds of dollars, they still try and jew you.
>>
>>55869866
Not in the slightest

With a decent enough graphics card you'll notice no difference in gaming, though your FPS meter count will be slightly lower (we're talking numbers over 60fps, so who cares anyway) and slightly more CPU usage when gaming (but again, who cares when the performance is the same and it isn't damaging)
>>
>>55869866

No man, you're good. Slam in any high end graphics card you want.
>>
>>55869866
lol no ur good. clock to clock the 4690k is only 8-10% slower than the 6600k. hardly any noticeable difference desu.
>>
>>55869866
make sure to get faster ram though. 2400 would be ideal

I recently got the i7 4790k

Was kind of worried, until my MSI GTX 1080 arrived and I didn't worry about shit like that again
>>
>>55871403
Put that processor to work and resize your photos before you upload them. It took me 10 seconds to open that shit on 4chan's potato server.
>>
Lol, I recognize that Micro Center tag and sticker.
I used ASRock and it did me well when I ran into three DOA Asus boards in a row. (The store must of gotten a bad batch xD)
But eh, you have a high end processor and a board that can handle most of the latest tech.
Only thing you may run into is scarcity of that board socket in a few years if you ever need to replace it.
>>
>>55871403
Your card is in the wrong slot.

It goes in the uppermost x16 slot. Positioning does matter. I'm not sure why this is so difficult for first-time builders.
>>
>>55871460
I always blamed my shitty internet
>>
>>55871515
It had trouble fitting in that slot because of the CPU cooler, so I didn't bother

Some of the shit I read on /g/ seriously cracks me up, it really isn't that important

If he tucked in the wires that connect to the GPU too I'd say thats some pretty good cable management for a first time builder, though not too difficult with that case
>>
is it too bad if i go with ivy bridge i5 instead of skylake pentium/i3?
all i have is a 8 year old computer.

Not at all. Very worth the investment on the cheaper side. Have had zero problems with my Pro4 and 4690k, the performance is great. Bios is adequate for any overclocking youd want to do to your CPU. I have safely overclocked my CPU to 4.5Ghz no problems. Ask any questions you need OP.
>>
>>55869866
A 6600k costs pretty much the same, and performs pretty much the same, but you get an upgrade path to Kaby Lake or Cannonlake.
