Ah fug, man, all I wanted to do was build a computer for my little brother so we could play together.

When is the AMD 480 gonna get some decent fucking stock?

This. The demand for them was just too overwhelming.

Better get in line quick though, these fuckers are probably gonna be out of stock like a week after.

>6GB of GDDR5

lmao

i know op. i orderd two strix 480's last Tuesday.

now just waiting till next week, or the week after, to get them since asus claimed world wide availability mid august.

even though i ordered the strix, i don't recommend it for the 480 on a price+performance ratio. there are other 480's that are much better in that regard. such as the nitro+ 480 oc edition and even the non oc edition 8gb nitro+.

strix series is overall overpriced for both nvidia and amd cards this generation. asus is charging an extra premium for that automated pcb manufacturing and dual pwm fan headers for external fans. even the 1060 strix is $330 and the 1080 strix is $709 the last i saw on newegg.

i simply ordered them because i like the strix, and directcu series in general and have the money + amd fan.
>>
>>55869735
also want to mention is if i see them pop up on newegg i'm cancelling my amazon order and ordering them from there.

newegg doesn't charge me tax and they still have that $25 off if you pay via paypal promo.

with my newegg premier i can get next day shipping for about $13 with zero tax and $25 off.

if you can, definitely order from newegg.

It's like you want to turn this into a shitpost wars.

remined that if you bought GTX970 at release you only paid €50 for the same performace as RX480 or 25€ a year or 1.75€ a month or 5 cents a day.

How fucking sad AMD is?

and yet does horrible in most dx12 title's except nvidia sponsored, high tessellation and hairworks tomb raider that barely uses any async at all and dx12 by name.

16.7.3 drivers brought increased performance for the 480 in tomb raider.

these results show it with the nitro review. the standard 480 results are from previous drivers, and even though the nitro is factory oc, its percentage of oc is much smaller than the percentage increase it received in the results. showing the drivers did indeed increase performance.

tomb raider has been criticized as not a good showcase for dx12 async capabilities because it does use it little, and in a way that doesn't bog down nvidia's serial processing of async.

tomb raider also uses tessellation very heavy and hairworks. something amd historically hasn't done well when tessellation is used at insane high levels, like 16x, 32x and 64x. but does very well and very competitively when used at sane levels such as 8x & 4x.

amd, and when it was ati, like nvidia did with compute, didn't take tessellation all that seriously, even though ati was first to tessellation and nvidia was last. like nvidia with compute, ati didn't think tessellation wasn't going to be used at levels higher than 8x since its hard for ~~~~MOST~~~~ people to distinguish the difference between 8x and 64x. at least ati unlike nvidia with compute didn't completely downplay it, they acknowledge its usefulness and will be used, just not at the extent it did.

polaris did bring improvements to tessellation handling (better at 16x now), and many assume that's what the drivers mostly improved on with the 480's performance boost because the 480 compared to previous gcn cards like the fury, didn't scale much at first in dx12 mode vs dx11. not as high as the other cards did. now its scaling much higher.

regardless amd did receive a pretty good boost in dx12 mode vs dx11. higher than what nvidia's pascal received thanks to the reduction in driver overhead mostly as what this titles in dx12 virtually brings to the table at most. not so much offloading things such as draw calls to async.

overall in dx12 its almost a complete 180 between the 1060 and the 480. the gap shrinks considerably and the 480 comes out overall better.

in the few titles like tomb raider, the gap between the 480 and the 1060 are much smaller compared to dx11 titles when the 1060 does pull ahead.

if you care about dx12 and future games, and plan on keeping your card awhile, like ~~~MOST~~~ do, the 480 is a better option. better at higher resolutions and better in dx12 titles.

if you care about older games, mostly dx11, and ~~~DON'T~~~ plan on keeping your card awhile, then the 1060 is the better option.

this not to say the 480 is garbage at dx11 titles, at 1080p, its still able to virtually max them out and achieve higher than 60fps. the 1060 just scores higher.

if you're a nvidia shill, go nvidia.

if you're an amd shill, go amd.

if you don't care, comes down to future games and length of owning the card.

and now i leave this thread before the nvidia shills come in to distort everything and shill for their overlords that do nothing but shit all over them.

such as >>55870631 that wants to ignore amd fixing the power draw issues with a driver weeks ago.

sure they fixed it lol

also
