So, aside from the obvious which is the Start Menu, which many folks don't even use often, why does this system in particular either get overlooked or disliked so much?

It's just Windows 7 with the awful meme UI grafted onto it. And if you're willing to put up with said UI you already switched to 10.

Bam, no more metro bullshit and now its faster and better than windows 7
You can even get custom themes to get aero back if the flat colors design triggers you enough
Both Windows 8 and 10 have trouble dealing with older games. I don't need a new OS that's going to make my old shit obsolete.

Funny thing here. I did some research and disabled and removed some services and other background crap on 7 about equal to how 8 is and whatever minuscule speed difference they had was now completely gone.

So what you're saying is that you have to set up windows 7 so it's as fast as windows 8.1 by default? Sounds like the latter is the winner there.

You could say that, yes. But also that with little tweaking could can get 7 just as speedy.

Aero was pretty shitty desu
I want Windows Classic

My issue with themes in 8.1 is that they all require you to use extra software to disable the ribbon UI.
I know many, many people hate that but it's quite convenient to have an easy place to open a term-- I mean command prompt and show/hide hidden files and extensions with fewer clicks.
