I enjoyed doing it in Sixth Form, not the best thing but it seems like there's less competition and I'm very mediocre so I want to do something with my life. I'm not expecting it to be absolutly amazing or bring in a great amount of cash though, I can live pretty frugal

Most medium to large companies have their own network engineers. Not all internal networks will be treated with the same amount of priority, but large companies usually have vast heterogeneous networks that require a separate team to maintain.

OP, if your only skills are networking you'll probably be out of a job someday assuming you don't adapt. These days to be successful you need some software skills and automation both for managing large legacy infrastructure and in the case of some large companies like Google there would be custom network stacks on commodity hardware rather than 100% off the shelf devices from Juniper or something that you need to be developed.

Don't cast such a narrow net, get familiar with a slew of skills and then tailor during your career while keeping an ear to the ground.

I've noticed the course I'm planning to take covers a lot more than just networking, including software development which I feel like I was decent enough at in sixth form. Thanks for the heads up though, I'll keep all that in mind if I decide to go down this path after all.
