>Linux Mint
Security disaster. They seriously have almost no fucking clue what they're doing.

>Fedora
Stability disaster. Essentially a glorified unpaid beta test platform for RHEL.

>Ubuntu
Playground for Canonical's wacky inventions (like upstart, unity, mir etc.) that all fail because they're a gigantic pile of dogshit. (Which everybody but Canonical realizes)

None of these are particularly great options, but personally I find Ubuntu has the best “normie usability” to “security and stability” ratio. (After having evaluated both fedora and ubuntu in a small business setting for a few years. I wouldn't touch mint with a 10 foot long pole)

>>55848049
The problem with Fedora is that every time you're about done fixing all of the bugs they introduce with every release, they release the next version.

When we were just about finished fixing all of the F22-related bugs (around the time F23 was released), we decided to say fuck it and went back to Ubuntu LTS releases.

The release cycle matters for stability. There's a reason people use debian and not archlinux on servers :^)

>>
>>55848080
Where did I mentioned arch ir debian?

Fedora is best for desktops and servers equally. You are responsible for what you are doing, but you are backed by the devs. They provide excellent support.
>>
>>55848020
I recommend Mint cinnamon because it's easy to blow normie minds with simple shit like active corners, easy virtual desktops and fool proof gui settings.

It's a first sneak peak through the window to a world without the limitations of Windows.

Some go back to Windows. Some stick with Mint or other babby distros. But a few get curious and start to look into shit more deeply.
>>
>>55848080
Fedora does that by design. They actually want Fedora to work that way. If you want a system that's stable enough for the enterprise, then install Debian or Redhat, not Arch or Fedora.
>>
>>55848136
Tfw I never had issues with fedora.
>>
>>55848136
Yeah, they specifically want Fedora to be unpaid community beta testing for RedHat, which is exactly what I've been saying.
>>
I'm thinging of using ubuntu studio.

In the following order
Linux Lite. You are spoonfed what to do first (see pic), io just pushing buttons, what winfags know best.

>>
As much as I love using more interesting distros, I have had to fall back on mint. I need stability, and an update on mint has never broken the programs I need for work. I haven't tried RHEL or centOS, but there were issues on fedora with updates breaking things, and file system latency issues with certain programs on scientific linux.

apart from that though:

>>
Would Manjaro be fine for someone who has very little experience with Linux?
>>
This need some in depth explanation.

Manjaro, Debian (and Devuan), and even Ubuntu Server (yes, that is an option) are good if you trust yourself not to run scare for two or three words, because you don't need to do a manual partition, they do it for you.

Now, the easy installation distros like any of the *buntus, Mint, or Linux Lite (what I think is the new Mint), have an easy installer and default setup for anyone switching from Windows to Linux.

Now, stay away from Arch and Gentoo if you don't want to fix things yourself.

Fedora and OpenSUSE are memes. They are buggy no matter what shills say.

Got it?

Noob friendly distros I'd say Ubuntu MATE, Xubuntu, and Linux Lite.

Can't call Linux Mint noob friendly when upgrading between versions requires you to edit your sources list and then drop to TTY and repeatedly enter update commands until it doesn't do anything anymore.
>>
Not to hijack the thread but what would be a decent intermediate distro?

Something with a stable gui installer but very little bloat, just essential / commonly use dependencies and a browser, everything else being left for me to apt-get.

Any recs?
>>
>>55857519
Debian, Devuan, or Manjaro.

They all have GUI installers and you can set what you want from the start.

I am using Devuan myself and I can tell you is pretty damn comfy. I've set my resolution by editing the xorg.conf, global audio by asound.conf, and I don't use a DE but ratpoison which is started by a .xinitrc.

By what I've told you alone you can google and off you go without a DE, or you can install any DE on any of the aforementioned distros.

>>
>>55861518
No Mint is an abomination, mint users need to be gassed. It uses out of date ubuntu repositories. Just use fedora or a spin of ubuntu.
