So I've got a Dell Latitude E6400 that has a Core2 Duo T9600 running at 2.8GHz with 4GB of RAM, but I'd like to put a better CPU in it.
Is it compatible with any of the Core2 Quad or Core2 Extreme CPUs? It uses Socket P (PGA478) and Intel lists three quad core CPUs:
Core2 Quad 9000
Core2 Quad 9100
Core2 Extreme 9300
I'd like to get the Core2 Extreme 9300, but I'm not sure the system actually supports it. A question similar to this appeared on the Dell website but never game any actual answer, as all given was a list of replacement parts.
I plan on completely maxing this laptop, what with 8GB of RAM and an SSD, the whole nine yards.
Suggestions? I'm using the laptop right now, so I can give any info needed.
T9600 is 35W
QX9300 is 45W
I think it would work thats not much difference.

I'm actually wondering if the BIOS is capable of doing this.
I've got an older laptop (Inspiron 5160) that had a Pentium 4 2.8GHz with Hyperthreading, and it didn't take too well to having a 3GHz CPU installed (POST errors).
How would the extra 45W affect battery life? Currently lasts about 3 or 4 hours on a full charge, not sure how this would change that.
Also wondering how this could effect cooling, this CPU gets very hot as is.

You need to work on your google-fu
Here you go, qx9300 wont work apperently

Thank you!
As it appears, the T9900 is the best performance CPU I can get, will it effect battery life or thermals much?
Dont put a Core 2 Quad in there, its gonna burn your nuts off. You will get poor battery life

Doesn't seem as if I can even put one in.
I plan on using it mostly on the charger and on desks.

Probably not far from the truth. Got an M4400 (E6400's 15.4" big brother) with a T9400 in it and that thing gets toasty if you do anything that needs any amount of CPU power, even after a good cleaning and repasting. A C2Q would get downright nuclear
