D-does this count?

Pls no bully, it shits all over the stock laptop keyboard, hard going back when I take it somewhere.
>>
>>55827067
That sucks, you can get new keys though right?
My WASD brand keyboard shows no signs of wear after like two years of heavy use. People on here always shit on WASD but I think they are just basing their second hand opinions on forum posts from years ago when they released their first batch of keyboards.
Their V2 keyboards do not wear easily.
>>
>>55827391
Yeah it's a Rosewill although its not the v2 one which I assume you are talking about. It has a metal back plate which makes it hard to to bend unless I try pretty hard. Excuse if I don't know the proper name as this is my first mech keyboard an I do not know all the proper terminology. Mine has Blue switches.

>>
>>55828421

I don't like MX blues. I don't feel like I would not be a good person to ask. They are my least favorite switch of all so you would be getting a very once sided response. As that other guy said >>55828421 they are very different any ALPS switch is much more 'full' and 'clunky' than a MX switch except the complicated linears which are butter smooth. They feel more mechanical. Cherry style switches have a soft springy feeling with light mechanical feel.
>>
>>55828584

Mine do I have 3 different types of apple ADB keyboards. I don't use them much but from my use they have been okay so far.

BTC dome with slider boards are fairly common and dirt cheap rubberdome+membrane keyboards that feel very similar to Topre if you can't get your hands on the real article to test it.

Main difference being that Topres feel more consistent and actuate before they actually bottom out.

Electrostatic capacitive switches are technically not mechanical but we give them a pass because they're p.gud.

Cherry is merely OK. Their quality slipped decades ago and honestly their modern reputation is largely a result of their being the only game in town when mech boards saw their recent resurgence.

Their patent on the switch is expired now, so anybody can make improved versions. Gatreon makes way smoother "cherry" switches and has pretty much taken the crown from them.

Also ALPS switches are almost always better than Cherry, though the only modern versions being manufactured are Matias switches. The oldschool lime green and blue complicated ALPS switches are incredible.

Neither. The former is most likely ABS, while the latter is pretty thin and most likely has the dreadful anti-bacterial coating.

No one would ever confuse a HHKB for a vintage mech no matter how pleb they are. They never came in a such a form factor and Topres don't sound anything like an old mechanical switch.
>>
>>55835236
I think you underestimate people. I work for an MSSP,and I'm the only one with a mechanical board, if you consider topre mechanical, and the only one with 60%. People hate on it constantly, they're too pleb to handle a 60% board.
>>

I could see people hating on it because it's a 60% and doesn't look like a common keyboard, but not because it looks "vintage"

its entirely personal but i would suggest you to buy anything but browns
most people dont like reds

that would probably be your best bet

Just wondering, but if a tactile switch requires 65g to get past the bump, shouldn't the actuation force be 65g? Because the 55g measurement has no real meaning. I don't get why tactile cherry switches are rated this way.

I narrowed down my first mechanical keyboard buy to a Ducky ONE with brown switches (possibly TKL, dunno), and I just noticed that the only store that ships them to Mexico ran out of stock.
How often does mechanicalkeyboards.com re-stock?

WASD is my other option, but they are so expensive. Almost $50 more.

There's also this mexican store, but they mostly sell Razer crap and overly tacky RGB gamer keyboards.

The CoolerMaster looks alright, but they only sell it with red switches.

Hi friendos,

So I purchased a chinese topre knock off on Aliexpress earlier this month and it came in the mail a few days ago.
<- Pic related.

Anyways I thought I'd offer my 2 cents about it and review it for you lads just in case you guys were interested in it.

It's a 35g Topre clone with RGB Backlighting called the Plum84. So I've had reds for 3 or 4 years now and since then I've wanted lighter reds. Along comes this keyboard and I had to buy it to see if I really wanted anything lighter than 40 grams. The short answer is yes, this is exactly what I've been looking for, as well as being a fairly legit topre clone. It's not going to win any awards on build quality like Realforce does or the HHKB. There's definitely a cheapness to it when it comes to the case, keycaps and backplate, but when you forget about that the keyboard actually offers a solid typing experience. I've never owned a Topre board before this so I can't really comment on how close it is to a topre board, but there are definitely posts on leddit and other forums and massdrop comparing the two, as well as comparing this keyboard to that Coolermaster Topre board. Speaking about that coolermaster board, apparently this one feels much much more like a topre than the coolermaster variant. The chinese have really outdone themselves with copying topre cause this feels great. The only way I can describe the sound of this board is chalky raindrops and it definitely feels a little grainy similar to cherry reds.

The rgb lighting is great as well, several different modes to choose from. However when it comes to more intense lighting effects you can clearly see some form of "lag" when it comes to lighting up all the different keys. For instance there is a ripple mode where whenever you press a key it will change LEDs on other keys in a line. When you start typing fast it clearly lags behind and looks absolutely awful. It cost me 124 USD and took about two weeks to ship. Willing to answer any questions btw.

Oh okay. Just wondering as mine have smaller print.

As for the printing, yeah I've only had mine for three days and the printing is already fading on the frequently used keys. It should be completely gone by the end this week, after I've done some serious work with this keyboard.

Depends on how the plate was colored. You can tell if you actually can feel the coat of color, or if theres a transparent finish on top or if the surface feels metal ish.

Most plates used in mech keyboards nowadays tends to be get anodized for coloring. I used acetone fine to remove the logo off an pic related. Other people have done the same with spyder lolita and other elevated keys out of plate type keyboards.

A mech keyboard is 10x as expensive as a dome keyboard.

It is louder, with a harder keypress required.

The only advantage I could think of is durability but my dome keyboard lasts 5+ years no problem.

So honestly I don't see the point of these meme keyboards except just as another fashion statement.

I'm interested into Cherry MX red keyboards. Could you tell me your opinion on them please? Are they good for typing? Do they cause wrist/finger strain after a long use session?
>>
>>55850455
Todays cherry reds are fucking shit.

You shouldn't be getting <insert any> reds if you're typing. Reds are for video games. I fucking love reds and even I admit it's much easier to skip a letter or get some letter in wrong order with reds.
>>
>>55850628
I'd like to build a new pc for both gaming and working, but I'd love to get a good mech keyboard for both purposes. What's the most balanced kind of switches according to you? Like something that's moderately accurate for both things and that's not too fatiguing.

>A mech keyboard is 10x as expensive as a dome keyboard
This is correct

>It is louder, with a harder keypress required
Not necessarily. They typically are, but you can get mech keyboards that have rubber-dome levels of quietness. And the force required also varies depending on the dome or the switch, there's light switches and there's heavy switches, same goes for rubber domes.

>So honestly I don't see the point of these meme keyboards except just as another fashion statement
They feel nice to use and offer a very high level of modularity, which is why many people choose them over rubber dome keyboards.

Though like >>55850448 said, nobody here cares for your opinion as to why you don't like mechanical keyboards or can't understand why someone would want to use them. Nobody's going to stop using their mech because of you and your not very informed opinion.

>>55850455
>>55850628
Reds are perfectly fine for typing. If you're having trouble typing properly with reds, then maybe you should learn to type properly. They're certainly quite unlikely to cause you strain on your fingers since they're on the lighter side of switches. If you like how they feel or not, that's a different matter, but they're perfectly fine for any kind of keyboard activity, be it typing or gaming.
>>
>>55837372
Many keyboards have dipswitches to swap caps/ctrl like KUL, etc.
>>
>>55850836
I touch type without bottoming out. It's impossible to do it properly on reds regardless if it's cherry, kailh, gateron or some other chink cnockoff, since the switches will have varying actuation points, up to 2.5mm. The specs says +-0.5mm, well their specs are fucking bullshit. Unless if you spend hours manually popping open each switch to bend the leaf parts to manually calibrate the points. I have never had problems with cherry browns or blues, they've always actuated after the tactile bump. (kailh browns/blues are shit)

There is also tactile ans audible feedback on your keypress and actuation, a ton of layout options, choice for basically everything, space saving and ergonomics (for some keyboards)
>So honestly I don't see the point of these meme keyboards except just as another fashion statement.

>>55850836
Ok. I've always heard a lot of people say that Browns are the sweetest spot between reds and blues, but a couple of guys here told me that Browns are awful and that both Blue and Red are better. At this point I'm prone to think that it all comes down to subjectivity. I'm just looking for switches with very low resistance and very good response. A sweet tactilw feedback would be also nice, but I guess that this point is really subjective. This is going to be my first mech keyboard and I'm planning to invest quite a large amount of money on them because I want to keep my new keyboard for very long time.

Every word is a chord. You press all the keys at the same time and when you let go the entire word comes out. The keyboard "flows" from left to right in order to decode your chord. For example, if you want to type kat, you press three keys at the same time. (Left side) K (Thumbs) A (Right side) T.

To type "Scaffold", you press 6 keys at the same time. (Left side) SK (Thumbs) A (Right side) FLD.

It gets a bit more complicated then that, but those are the basics.
>>
>>55854635
Yah I kinda get that is supposed to be a predictive and fast way to type once you get it. Just kinda confusing once you start working out more complex words and sentences. Thanks for the explanation just needed a more basic run through.

Emt with hand autism here. I need a keyboard for work because the tablets here make me want to suicide but they have usb ports so I'm in luck. I need a keyboard that's basically indestructible, can be doused in sanitizer and bleach without breaking and is pretty much silent but feels nice. Thx famallama. Price range is anything under 200 buckaroonos.

How long did it take for you to find out what switches you prefer? I've only used MX Brown, Blue and Clear. I like how the clears feels smooth and kinda mushy but they're a bit too heavy for me. I like the blues but they're a bit too noisy. Browns are what I lean the most towards right now but the actuation point feels weird after I've typed on my clear for a while.

I have no idea what to try next, I'm leaning towards Gateron Browns since I've heard people say they're smoother than the MX Browns.

Guys i wanna buy a Mechanical Keyboard and found out that the Corsair Lux 70 RGB. But you guys keep saying its a meme keyboard and that it sucks and shit.

Can anyone recommend me another RGB good quality keyboard since Corsair lux 70 RGB sucks or w/e. Im willing to spend up to £150. I mainly game so let it be a good one for gaming.
>>
>>55865196
Ducky Shine 5 or MK Disco.
>>
>>55865221
see look the problem with those keyboards is that they look ugly as fuck. God dammit. Can i know why you guys say Corsair lux 70 RGB Sucks? Please I wanna know why it sucks so i can decide for myself if i should buy it or not.

45g Topre gave me a preference for lighter switches (35g linears are lovely). I still like the heavier clears, but I don't use them a whole lot since the keyboard I have them in is fucking huge.

I don't think I have any definite preference as to what I prefer. I like linears, I like light switches, I like tactile switches and I also like heavy switches. I think optimally I'd have a board in the 60% - TKL range for every switch that I like, which given my broad preference for switches, would probably lead to something around 10 keyboards.

At least I'm on the way there.

>>55865257
>see look the problem with those keyboards is that they look ugly as fuck
They don't. They look good. The corsair keyboard on the other hand looks like shit.

Apart from objective matters such as taste (your taste sucks), corsair is known for issues such as bad QC, failing LEDs and a horrible firmware. Not to mention that the corsair keyboard has a non-standard bottom row, hence you'll have a whole lot of trouble finding replacement keycaps for the shitty laser-etched abs keycaps that it comes with.
>>
>>55865305
Dude you say my taste sucks and then suggest me keyboards without num pads or volume control scroll wheels. If I wanted a classic keyboard I would have gone to a old dated keyboard store and bought a windows 2000 keyboard. Those keyboards you mentioned look ugly as fuck and many people will agree with me there. Duck Logo? Dafuq is this a petting zoo? What other brands are good other than those? Why is Razer bad? Is logitech good?
>>
>>55865090
Devlin, an electric components manufacturer in the UK that still has some extremely thick keycap molds. They're thicker than SA profile with the K series (the thickest ones) being almost twice as thick as thick Cherry profile caps.

There's only a planck keyset and a sampler pack (with some jucky lasered legends we'll probably not see again) out so far, but there's going to be a group buy for a complete double-shot set soon. They might even be cheaper than GMK.
>>
>>55865347
>Dude you say my taste sucks and then suggest me keyboards without num pads or volume control scroll wheels
That is correct. Keyboards with a numpad and a volume control wheel can look just fine, but that doesn't stop corsair keyboard from looking gaymurrrrr shit.

>Those keyboards you mentioned look ugly as fuck and many people will agree with me there
Not here they won't. Go back to >>>/v/

>What other brands are good other than those?
Leopold, Filco, the Realforce line of keyboards, most cooler master boards, and plenty others.

I can sure as hell tell you that razer and corsair do not make good keyboards.

>Why is Razer bad
Non-standard bottom row and chink knockoff switches (while selling it for the same price that it had when it was using cherry mx switches).

>Is logitech good?
The g710 is shit, the 910 is shit, the 810 something looks quite ok, I don't know about the build quality, but it uses cherry switches and has a standard layout so it's your best option if you want to stick your money into something that screams GAYMURRRRRRR.
>>
>>55865425
ok you made good points here. The Logitech 810 is actually perfect for exactly what i need. I hate stuff that looks to gamery. I want something that looks exactly like 810 and has the exactly same features with volume control with very good built quality. Is there any keyboard that matches that specifications?
>>
>>55865425
The G810 doesn't use cherry, it still has Romer G switches like the 910.
>>
>>55865453
well i guess a 810 is out of the question then. Any keyboards like the Logitech 810 that are suggested? I want a very good qualty one with red mx keys.
>>
>>55865347
Just get a CM board with a standard bottom row (ctrl, alt and windows keys same size).
They're priced well, are available basically everywhere, look respectable and Cooler Master is still very gamer oriented with the features they put in.

>volume control scroll wheels
Novelty feature that causes a dip in overall quality if you insist on it. I just rebind one of my side mouse buttons + scroll wheel to do volume control.
>>
>>55865453
My bad, I thought I had read that they actually had an up to date keyboard again with cherries.

>>55865463
>>55865452
>I want something that looks exactly like 810 and has the exactly same features with volume control with very good built quality
Doesn't exist.

High end keyboards don't come with volume wheels, and most of them don't have RGB backlighting either. The Ducky Shine 5 is the closest that you'll get to what you're looking for.

Though I think cooler master recently released some RGB boards, don't know about the build quality of those though.
>>
>>55850310
>shit qc

This is just wrong tho. Quality wise, romer G switches are probably the best ou there. Its made by omron aka the best switch manufacturer of everything from mouses to cars, it has 2 electrical contacts in case one fails, and centered led without any light bleeding.

But you are wright, the switch sucks when talking about how it feels.
>>
>>55865508
>>55865486
Ok you know what. Fuck the RGB system. I just want a normal keyboard with volume control. Does that exist? I want it to look similar to the Logitech 810 but i want to experience that amazing orgasmic cherry mx red feel.
>>
Ok i found one that looks quite good but It looks like its made from a cheap material. Its called Das Keyboard 4 Professional. How is that keyboard?
>>
Guys I have a question, its quite important. Im gonna get myself the Das Keyboard 4 Professional But it looks like a lot of people have problems with the keycaps. Is it possible to buy high quality key caps and remove all the ones on the current Das Keyboard 4 Professional and use the ones i buy? If thats possible im gonna go with the Das Keyboard 4 Professional . Also where can i buy the full UK keycaps good quality ones?
>>
>>55865641
Das took a dip in quality after moving over to an OEM in mainland china and isn't really that highly regarded in the keyboard community anymore.
>>
>>55865729

You bring your passport, and if you purchase over a certain amount (usually 5K yen, so around 50 buckaroos) you can get tax exempt for your purchase.

Unless your passport is nipponese.
>>
I got a mechanical keyboard 2 months ago and all I keep doing is making typos and hitting the fucking capslock key. It took me 10 minutes to type this correctly.
>>
>>55866429
Which switches do you have?
>>
>>55866439
Blues. Bit of an exaggeration to be honest but it's taking me ages to adapt coming from a Logitech G16.
>>
>>55866480
I had used rubber dome keyboards before i bought cherry mx blue keyboard. Now my wpm is around 80-85 and with the rubber dome it was 70-75.
It takes a while to get used to them.
>>
So I'm currently using Kailh browns because I love being able to type light and fast on it, going right past the tactile click and no further.

Almost everything about it feels right to me, except for that I dislike the amount of friction on the keys, and I think the weight of the keys may be just a little bit too much.

What path to take? I'm thinking gateron clears or possibly light topres.
>>
>>55867065
Gateron clears are very nice, they're extremely light and smooth, and linear. Don't know how you feel about that given your preferences, but I enjoy them a whole lot.

As for 35g Topre: It doesn't feel as good as 45g or 55. People say that 55g feels snappier than 45g, and comparing them side by side, I didn't really notice that, but having tried them all side by side, 35g really does feel mushier than 45g.
>>
>>55867125
Interesting. I've felt my friend's heavier topres, and I loved how smooth yet tight they were. The lighter ones probably aren't for me, then.

Also, how often do you experience accidentally pressing a key you're resting on with the clears?
>>
>>55867166
>how often do you experience accidentally pressing a key you're resting on with the clears?
Never. Unless you have fingers of lead that won't happen.
>>
>>55867191
Thanks for the info, bruv.

Should I get a Qisan Magicforce 60% meme keyboard? I kindof don't want it, many progs I use involve a lot of fkeys. Though, it could be actually more comfy not to move my hands as far out of home position.

If by Leopold you mean FC660 then go for it Anon, it's truly one of the best layouts. In fact, I'm considering buying a second one to have at work. I realised that instead of spending $80+ on keycaps I can just put in a little more cash, buy a second keyboard (in a different color) and switch caps between them.
>>
>>55868343
Yerp that's the one, it look's really wonderful. How is the over all build quality?
>>
Is a ducky zero with blues at $99 worth a long drive to a microcenter?
>>
>>55868449
It's really solid. It stays firm on the desk and makes a nice, deep sound when bottoming out. I have MX browns. Another thing I find myself using all the time is the function key, which is next to the arrow keys and comes with built in combinations like:

FN + right arrow = end
FN + left arrow = home
FN + up arrow = page up
FN + down arrow = page down

I'm not from the US, no. But I do prefer the US layout if that's what you were thinking. One thing I realised after changing layouts is that keyboard shortcuts in general are made with that layout in mind. I am a hundred times more efficient using Adobe software for instance, which has several shortcuts using brackets and hard-to-get symbols in other layouts. Same goes for programming, brackets used to be a nightmare and now they're just one keystroke away.
