I thought about the same thing, or maybe it's the other way round: since jap culture had lost all interests for robotics they stopped making mecha anime. I remember I was pretty hyped sone years ago when Honda was working on a BCI which used brainwaves and MRI to move an Asimo, it was just like muh Evangaylion; now the best they could do are animatronics waifus.
