I'm still using my HD 4850 just fine. Survived a Mobo short due to a storm, a PSU fail due to overheating and I'm still using it. Gonna finally retire it because i can't play any new game that comes out because of DX11.

Sometimes if it's just a blackscreen, or won't turn on, it's not the GPU die itself, but a different component, and can be repaired.
