This is the equivalent of taking a poster designed to attract attention and putting all it's content into words on an A4 paper.
This isn't better. It's the exact opposite of the kiddy example in terms of complexity, but it doesn't differ at all in terms of how ugly it is.

>>55834545
>This is the equivalent of taking a poster designed to attract attention and putting all it's content into words on an A4 paper.
So you're turning something designed to appeal to the unwashed masses into something designed to be readable? Sounds good to me.
>This isn't better. It's the exact opposite of the kiddy example in terms of complexity, but it doesn't differ at all in terms of how ugly it is.
I don't follow at all. Complexity? What do you mean? The same information is there, just instead of being plastered all over your face with ßÍöHÅZÅRDSpëRM printed on top of it, it's presented in a clear, concise and logical manner with no extra frills or unnecessary embellishment.
>>55827096
>fisher-price the OS
What does that say about most Linux desktop environments that try their hardest to replicate Windows and fail miserably?
admittedly less stupid than afterburner. still though, why?
>>55834664
I'm sorry, I seem to have worded this wrong.
A poster is designed to attract attention. Not from the 'unwashed masses'. By everyone. Imagine walking on the street and seeing white signs with black letters everywhere, all identical.
Yes, they present information in, as you put it, concise and logical manner, but they sacrifice individuality and consumer attention.
Sliders, buttons, toggles, all of those elements need to be presented beautifully.
I'm not saying the aforementioned examples of kiddy design is good, I hope that's clear.
But the exact opposite is way to minimal, and looks like every other dialog window.
Yes, you may be one of those people who prefer minimal design, but not everybody is like that. Why can't we have a something between those two extremes?
Not a clusterfuck, not too complex, not too simple. Something in between.
>>55834764
>A poster is designed to attract attention.
That's good for posters, but an overclocking panel is designed to let you overclock your GPU, not to sell some shitty product.
>they sacrifice individuality and consumer attention.
I don't need my overclocking utility to need “individuality” and “consumer attention”. I need it to work, to be stable, to present all the necessary information to me and to use minimal resources. (In approximately that order)
Flashy UIs are extremely out of place on my PC.
>But the exact opposite is way to minimal, and looks like every other dialog window.
You don't get anything by being a special fucking snowflake. If every other dialog window looks like that, then it's probably because it *works*. I find it much more distracting if every single program decides to have its own visual style. That way lies Microsoft-style retardation of having 10+ different looking context menus, and I fucking HATE it. I can't even stand the mismatch between gtk and qt - I would probably have a heart attack on windows.
>Yes, you may be one of those people who prefer minimal design, but not everybody is like that. Why can't we have a something between those two extremes?
Yes, I understand that there are kids and marketing department people who value aesthetics over functionality. I thought this was supposed to be the technology board.
>>55834762
at least you can skin it

It's not something you interface with a lot. You literally turn on your computer and it automatically starts
