Really gonna miss this case, but I need something more modern, with space for cable management, SSD's, and a 120mm water cooler

More than one fan would also be nice.
>>
>>55810049
I actually decided on the cooler before the case, seeing I was looking in the mITX range, however this has the added benefit of providing some airflow onto the motherboard as well.
It's not the best cooler though. I'm fairly seriously considering an AIO.

I already ordered this stuff, just waiting on the PSU.

I already have experience with this particular combo, (built one for a client) so I know what I'm getting, and the AMD stock coolers these days are solid performers and pretty quiet, this one comes with the red one without a shroud. (My client opted for a low-profile noctua cooler, but the stock one was already really good)

Can handle most things I throw at it pretty decently, and the main reason I opted for this CPU as opposed to the 860K my client got was because I'm not going to overclock the CPU but I was interested in the AVX2 registers, which this one has.
>>
>>55811642
Shit, I just realised I forgot to get a couple of case fans.

I should be able to go over to the local computer shops to pick up a few quiet ones, bonus is I can even try them there, and they're usually around just a buck each, 1.50 USD for deepcool ones.
>>
>>55811642
>fm2+

>>
>>55811719
Hey, I want them register extensions, mang, plus IPC and thermal improvements aren't to be overlooked, system ends up feeling much more responsive than if I'd gone for an FX CPU.

In the end this is me really needing to upgrade from my 2008 Athlon II 2X 250 computer while still saving up for Zen, which I am getting without a doubt, and this particular CPU+mobo combo sells quite well here, so offloading it and the RAM for half-price will be easy when I get my Zen setup (everything else will be reused, hence me overshooting the PSU a bit)

With FX-Card and 4gb stick in:

DIMM-1: 5beeps, but with the keyboad plugged in is no beeps
DIMM-2: HOLY WTF BATMAN With keyboard in she no want to turn off. I had to use the psu isolation switch(out of slight panic), but no beeps. >No Keyboard same sort of issue, but could hols the main switch to power down(tested thrice). Retake of keyboard in same issue but can hold down main switch to turn it off.
Keyboard is light up with the computer off??? wtf. (may just be power retention)
DIMM-3: No beeps no issue turning off, keyboard light down as well. Without keyboard 5 beeps
DIMM-4: Keyboard in, no beeps. Keyboard out 5 beeps.

I'm guessing this is not good.

Its some dumb asus shill that only likes riced shit motherboards instead of clean and understated.
>>
>>55817236
What you pay is what you get.
Asrock is very low quality.

I bought an Asrock 990 a few years back. Their site said "full support of 8350".

Then it wouldn't overclock at all, because the area surrounding the socket would get over 120C hot.

I checked the site - they deleted the 8350 support. Google it, it was a major issue. They just pulled the support of the 970 and 990 boards and pretended the motherboards never had one. No refunds.

Never buying ass rock again, ever.

In some cases, riced boards are good as well. At least ASUS' Deluxe line was full of goodies SATA RAID,and SATA II support on old boards. Same goes for DFI,though DFI's have less features, even though Lanparty and Infinity lines tend to be on par with ASUS' Deluxe line.
>>
>>55817481
im pretty sure that motherboard is a extreme 9, not a extreme 3
>>
>>55817495
990 is high end for AMD and they actually cost the same as the z97.

Only Asus boards with 970 or 990fx chipset that can run FX-8350 even at stock clocks without VRM mosfets getting too hot are: Sabertooth R2.0 and Crosshair whatsitsname.

Asrock Extreme9 990 alongside of those two Asus boards is the best 990fx mobo released.

And by the way: having 'full support for fx-8350' doesnt mean it can overclock it.
The support is never for overclock on any board or brand, even if the board is marketed as 'overclock' board. Read the small print.

I hate to admit it, but you're right. The 'Deluxe' boards seem to date longer back.
My defence is that i used Abit boards up to Intel P43 chipset boards (which incidentally is the first Intel board alongside of e8400 cpu that i've bought).
I use 3200+ on my router box.

Can get one for single 5.25 slot or for the 3.5 slot. You just hook one or two sata power too it and how many sata cables you need to it and its all in one area that you can swap out if anything. They got for pretty cheap to expensive depending on the amount of shit you need.

I consider biostar better when talking about motherboards than asus because at least the biostar motherboard i had worked for 2 years before fucking up
>>
>>55817841
Abit are good as well. In fact people said those are more robust than ASUS and offer nearly the same features. Shame they disappeared because of the whole BP6 lawsuit (which covered the BP6 and a few other boards from that era)because I think Abit would actually do decent i3/i5/i7 boards. I mean seriously, maybe their Fatal1ty (that's what they named the line)series may have looked a bit edgy on the outside, but it would perform up to its name, regardless of the board size.

kek what was it then? nF3,4 and 6100 series had some BGA problems.

In any case my PC still runs on a ASUS board (P4,FILLER system w/ DDR2,i945P,until I can get a AM2 board cheap) and I can tell you mine survived (still using it) the most harsh and miserable conditions, and it never gives up. So does the cheap GPU I reflowed. (256MB Geforce 8500GT,Winfast OEM)

What ssd is that in the lower pcie slot? What did you pay for it? Im hung up between a 2TB 850 evo or a 1.2TB Intel pcie ssd. I know the pcie ssd is way faster on paper, but for real life use and load times, is my money better spent on a higher capacity standard sata ssd?

you're underestimating the 955. i dont think at stock speeds it would bottleneck a 950 @ 1080p, maybe in some badly optimized titles but an easy mild OC to 3.6ghz would fix that.

source: i had a 965 which is the same chip just a 200mhz higher base clock w/ a gtx 960
>>

People love to yell bottleneck on this board. At everything, justified or not.

Hardly anything can bottleneck a GeForce 950. And then it would just be bad lower performance for CPU tasks.

it's easy to see why people who never owned a Deneb might underrate it though, considering it came out a whole 2 years before bulldozer 1.0 which was infamously bad one might suspect its IPC was significantly lower, but in fact it was significantly higher because K10 wasn't a half-baked turd.

More tape and more angle. ideally you want air rushing past not being forced onto your component.

Actually I was hoping to remove the fans entirely, it was intended for a server chasis so it had no fan on the northbrige, witch reaches 80c fairly fas without fans, with fans it's a cool 40c, I'm hoping another dual xeon anon knows where to get a low profile fan for the heatsink
>>
>>55829410
Just looked at my stock cooling fan from my 8350, it's fairly thin and pretty small that could do the trick.
50mmX50mmX15mm (guesstimate)
As for low profile case sized ones I'm at a loss.
I'm sure you can find the stock cooler somewhere and give it a go first before potentially paying stupid prices for some niche low profile fan.

Can I have your opinion on the building pc I'd like to get? It's here: http://it.pcpartpicker.com/list/TPsskT

My intention is to use this pc for both working (writing documents and power points), and entertaining (video, music and movies) and gaming some Steam fps games (Team Fortress 2, Fistful of Frags, Chivalry Medieval Warfare). I didn't list a monitor in the build, since I'm gettting a Asus VG248QE for my birthday soon. As for games, I'd love to play them on a relatively high framerate and smoothness at 1920x108o res, which is why I chose for the aforementioned monitor.
1) according to pcpartpicker my build doesn't have compatibility issues, but I haven't checked the size of the pieces yet. Before buying the pieces, what dimensions and specs should I take into consideration?
2) according to pcpartpicker the total wattage of my build is around 236W, then I chose a 300W PSU. Is it fine or should I look for a more powerful PSU?
Thanks for reading.

With Vulkan and DX12 those xeons will still manage quite well for years to come.
I'm also using ddr3 1333, was piss cheap on ebay.

Changed the thermal paster after that, it was a stock cooler

I'm 90% sure it's the gpu that's causing bad post. I'll have to rip out a display card from a PC I've got to cannibalise.
Still waiting on the h100i.

You're leaving yourself with a small amount of headroom so you can't overclock or upgrade to something more powerful.

It's not an issue if you dont plan on overclocking or trying to stuff dual GTX 1080s in there or something stupid.
>>
>>55831515
That and you might get a peak over what's stated and trip out the psw. also aprently psw's last longer if their like +0.5-1.0 capacity of what's recommended. (I honestly think that comes from the old days where shit broke often, so we bough bigger psu's)
Still another 100w wouldn't go astray.
Aslong as you're buying a well known brand such as coolerpower or corsair you should be fine.
And stay away from thermaltake.
>>
>>55831584
>>55831515
Slight redaction I meant to say " cooler master"

DO NOT buy cooler power.
>>
>>55831536
What exactly am I supposed to in case I want to overclock the video card? Actually I don't mean to get a more powerful card in the future. The GTX 750 Ti can already run my fav games very well.

>>55831584
Ok so do you recommend me to get a 400 W PSU in order to be totally safe? Is Be Silent! A bad brand?

As for the rest, is there anything you would change in my build? Do all the pieces work together well in your opinion? Coming to my screen, would be a DVI-D cable enough to get the best from it? Or should I get a DP?

400w should be fine. As for be silent! Theirs another Anon that uses the case fans and cpu cooler and I think the PSU as well
Check the archive (in the catalog theirs a button above stallman) for the latest few guts threads, just a ctrl f search. If he's using it I can't see why you shouldn't).

As for the motherboard, you have a ATX mini but a mid tower case. You could get a full sized board and have another two ram slots
But I think you'll be happy with the 16gb you have now.

Your graphics card is pretty small. You should be looking at the 4gb cards with 256bit(I personally got the r7 4gb 256bit over a lower tier nVida because that jump is a major difference in the usability of the card).
Your's is 2gb 128bit paired with an i5 and that's very lopsided.
It should be fine for playing most things for a while until you can afford a great card if that's what you're going for.

>>55832098

Craigslist/Goodwill/Garage Sale Special now with Poo Fan.

>Complete overkill 1000W PSU and 32GB of Ram bought off Craigslist together for $25
>i7-2600k and MSI Mobo leftover from old 2011 Build I had in storage
>Sound Blaster Z sound card I got for $5 at a garage sale
>Reference GTX 1070 I bought with leftover Best Buy gift cards
>Meme Poo Fan Noctua Heatsink so I can OC (intel stock cooler previously)

Ok thank you very much for the reply.

>As for the motherboard, you have a ATX mini but a mid tower case. You could get a full sized board and have another two ram slots
>But I think you'll be happy with the 16gb you have now.
If the only downside of a mini ATX mobo into a midtower case is a smaller room for RAM, then yes it's not a problem. I think that even 16 GB might be too much for me, infact I'm almost tempted to get 8 GB.

>Your graphics card is pretty small. You should be looking at the 4gb cards with 256bit(I personally got the r7 4gb 256bit over a lower tier nVida because that jump is a major difference in the usability of the card).

So is my system a bottleneck? I wouldn't mind even spending a bit more for a more performant card, if you say it's worthy, but I'm not going to play very demanding games after all. Infact I exclusively play old fps, such as Team Fortress 2 and Fistful of Frags, and eventually I could add also Chivalry Medieval Warfare and CS:GO to my game library in the future. GTX 750 Ti came on my mind because I saw a lot of videos of people running those games at max settings very well on this card, plus this card is easy to find in my country and it's not very expensive. I'm going to play those games at low settings btw, because I'd like to fully exploit the potential of my new monitor (ASUS VG248QE).
May I ask you some more questions? I'm a noob and this would be my first build.
1) do all cases have as many USB outputs as the mobo? In case the answer is negative, how do I know about this fearure?
2) stupid question: is the OS pre-installed on the CPU?
3) is an aftermark cpu cooler necessary?
4) is there a way I can totally disable the iGPU in order to use exclusively the dedicated GPU?

I don't even understand how this is possible. The 750 Ti only came out two years ago. It should be possible for one to have accumulated that much dust in that time unless it was being used in a fucking mine. I had my 4870 in a case with no filters for four years and never cleaned it once, and it was still nowhere close to that dirty.
