Same anon from last thread with the drivers issue.

I downloaded Linux and am now able to actually connect to the internet using it. I was also told to download 3DPN while using Linux to help install all my drivers I don't currently have, but I realized it is a windows only program. what do I do with it with linux?

I've recently acquired an old Mac Pro from my work (2x2.66Ghz Xeon's, hnnnnnngh....). and I've pretty much resigned to using Windows on it since the compatibility with retro-fitting it with SATA 3 and USB 3/3.1 has been ass.

Just so I don't make things complicated, I want to load the Mac OS on a small drive and use Boot Camp, but I can't decide whether OSX is worth using a new drive or not.

Should I use an 850 Evo, or should I just use an 840 Evo that I have lying around?

Really need some help here.
Currently trying to dual boot windows 10 with antergos, and I'm running into one problem. The guide says that I need to create a /boot/efi partition, but that windows already should have made one and I only need to specify that path instead of making a new one.
My issue is that I have windows 10 installed on an ssd, and I'm trying to install linux on the ssd also. However, the /boot/efi partition exists on my hard drive instead.
Do I specify the path on the different drive, or do I have to make a new one for antergos on the ssd?

READ [QUICK REPLY FUCKED]

So, not sure why, but when I go to post on 4chan using quick reply, it tells me "Error: File too large.", when I don't add any files/ images. The only way it lets me post, is if I add a valid image, meaning I can't post just text. What the fuck...

Any thoughts/ ideas?

So I bought a new mouse (logitech g402) and windows does not recognize it. When I go into device manager it just says the mouse I'm using is a Microsoft PS/2 mouse. That's strange. On a modern monitor and GPU HDMI should be sufficient for 1440p 60Hz.

Is the HDMI cable really sketchy or something?

Have you tried display port?

Did you get the 1070 recently? Did you install the correct driver for it? Are your nvidia drivers up to date? Have you tried changing the resolution in the Nvidia control panel?
>>

>>
>>55808572
sounds like you got a lemon desu. I have a g402 as well and I never had any issues with my computer recognizing it.
Have you installed the fusion engine yet?

Also, the scroll wheel not working sounds like a hardware issue, which is why I believe the mouse you got is simply defective.
>>
>>55808650
hey fellow g402 user. I got a new mouse and the scroll wheel is much stiffer then any other mouse I've used. The reviews online all said the same thing too, but I feel like mine is stiffer. How is your scroll wheel?
>>
>>55808650
not quite sure what a lemon means, but if you're saying I got a defective mouse, fuck me. What is the fusion engine exactly?
>>
>>55808681
Kind of tough for me to comment on that without trying yours out or having a common mouse to compare it to.
I think mine is fine. I used to use a small logitech wireless mouse before and the scroll wheel on the g402 doesn't feel much different from it.
>>
>>55808692
lemon is just a term used to describe a faulty or defective product. More commonly used for cars I think.

Fusion engine is the logitech utility that let's you adjust the dpi, set macros, etc.
I think it's worth trying, but if you've tried the fusion engine and updating the firmware and there are still issues it is almost certainly a hardware problem.

That's an interesting error. What OS version and gpu driver version?

It could be GPU related as you speculated. When writing drivers for PCI devices and such you tend to use a section of memory to address the device.

Is the second address in the memory error the same every time?

>>
>>55808554
Probably because the pizza/ant ratio was very high so you didn't have much of a chance to taste the ants. I think with chocolate covered ants they can use a big clump of ants with a thin coating of chocolate so you can taste them better?

You should run a memtest to be safe in case it actually is memory corruption. Is this a totally new build or did you never have errors before and just recently upgrade to the 1070?

The other option I can think of is some sort of corruption of Windows system files or drivers. You could try a windows "System File Check" to see if that's the case.

Can someone answer me this, I have my SSD installed, it's my boot drive that has W10 on it. The second drive I have is a HDD which I want to use to store all my stuff that doesn't need fast accessing, but the thing is that when I boot my PC, the HDD isn't recognised, ever.

I opened it up and moved it to a different SATA port on my mobo and after a restart it showed up, but then I turned it on today and it doesn't show up, not even in BIOS. I changed the port that it connects to on my mobo, but not the port that the HDD connects to, would that be the issue causing it, cause I have no other clue on how to get it to constantly show up everytime I power down and boot up my PC again.

Something weird is going on with my internet.

When I try to open speedtest.net it just loads continuously and never stops, pic related. The same thing happens in every browser, PC and device on my home internet connection. Pinging works fine though.

Pinging speedtest.net [151.101.192.230] with 32 bytes of data:
Reply from 151.101.192.230: bytes=32 time=26ms TTL=59

Reply from 151.101.192.230: bytes=32 time=50ms TTL=59

Ping statistics for 151.101.192.230:
Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
Minimum = 18ms, Maximum = 50ms, Average = 34ms

Possibly related, in IRC I cannot connect to rizon or freenode properly. It starts to connect, gets halfway through then just stops and won't let me join channels.

I just got 3d 4k TV and I'm making my old PC into a sort of media center. What's a good cheap 4k 3d card?

Are there any special requirements for 3d?
>>

If you just mean 3d movies not really, a good cpu is the main factor. If you want to render games in 3d at 4k you'll want two GTX 1080's

No not at all, I just want the movies. I'm just really unsure about 3d. I never particularly wanted it, but I may as well try it.

GTX 1060 maybe, but running 1440p on a 4k screen is not ideal due to scaling issues
4k is double 1080p in both dimensions so it would upscale 1080p fine, 1440 does not fit cleanly

I have a question about FoxPro (Though it might fall under SQL) and im struggling
Here is my Goal:

Within a FOR LOOP, separate a large table into multiple little tables grouping by CustomerID
Here is my code:

For n = UniqueCust
SELECT n CustKey FROM CustIDArray INSERT INTO CURSOR CustHold

UniqueCust is a count of how many distinct CustomerID's are in my table I am querying
CustIDArry is a Cursor with one field in it, CustKey that is a list of all the distinct Customer ID's.

Essentially I want to use n to point at the row inside CustIDArray, but I can't figure out how to tell FoxPro to pull a row based on row number.

I can get around it by taking the TOP 1 row from CustIDArray and then deleting the TOP 1 row from it before the next loop, but I am looking for a cleaner way.

probably your RAM getting full so stuff gets offloaded onto the HDD, which is terrible slow.
On top of that you download and write to it, so you slow it down even further.

Your 13 year old HDD just can't deal with it, so everything appears to be frozen.
Just let it run a few hours, it'll start working again eventually.

If you think about it, stupid and small aren't the same thing; you could have a small question that actually deserves its own thread, but you can't do the same with stupid questions. This thread should be for stupid questions, but not mandatory for small ones; alternatively it could be named "Stupid (And Optionally Small) Questions Thread", /s(aos)qt/ for short.

I'm on a good mood today so i'll pretend i didn't saw that.

2.5 and 3.5 are just sizes and only matter if portability is a concern for you, since they're basically rugged regular HDDs with a power source and sata/usb female ports, 2.5s are the size commonly found in laptops and are sightly bigger than a cigarrete pack, and the 3.5s are the regular desktop sized hdds, spin speed only matters for speed of writing data and data access as well, the format depends entirely on you.

Regular external drives are durable enough if you keep them safe and dry, as long as you buy from a major brand like seagate, toshiba, WD, etc, the only major difference between external drives is if you're between choosing an expensive external SSD (which are faster, more expensive and less durable) or a regular external HDD.

then scrap the fx6300 and go for i5
cheaper B chipset mobo
smaller case, you dont need mid tower
dont buy sound card
buy external usb DAC $100-$150

On regular, consumer level they will last, however there's no reason not to pick a WD drive, unless you're stretching your budget way above your capabilities, saving 10 dollars and getting an ADATA drive is not worth it.

Also since you linked a waterproof/shockproof drive you'll also have to consider if you want a drive to leave at home for backups or for using it to carry around a massive amount of data, exposing the drive, making the waterproofing an useful feature.
If the drive is for home use, then get a regular drive, I've seen external WD drives on Amazon for less than 60 USD, but then again buy suited to your needs.
>>
>>55818923
My friend has this mobo and he likes it, people always just complain that their I/O port cover doesn't line up right but I think if you're not dumb and you don't get a (no name) case you shouldn't be affected.

mobos are mobos
gigabyte and asus are about equal
some fuck ups got dead mobo and complained
some fuckups got dead mobo and did not went on to complain
few online reviews mean nothing
I prefer gigabyte but mostly I dont really care

but buying $170/$220 mobo for skylake is kinda serious waste of money
from the list, if you got money to piss and want one of those 3 I would go that UD5
>>
>>55819059
your case should already have 1-2 fans.
your cpu cooler should come with one too, that's enough if you aren't overclocking.
western digital seems pretty good, get a green/blue drive for storage and put your OS and programs on the SSD.
if you don't have an SSD then you're a fucking idiot.

You don't need a 3rd party CPU cooler for that CPU unless you really care about silence. But you should go with something else if you want that. I wouldn't trust OCZ.

My case, according to the box, has 1 top 200m fan and 2 front 120 mm fans. It's a CM Storm.

nah yo, it aint like that
imagine you put 2 x 140mm fans on a room, would you say that large room is well cooled?
imagine you put those 2 x 140mm fans on a shoe box.. now theres some fucking air movement...
but its still no matter much i nthe end.. all that matters is that hot air gets away and theres availability of the room temp air

often there are large cases that are worse cooled because of dead air, movement of fans just dont penetrate through, and generally the temp inside the case is bit higher

but really mid tower vs microATX is not some huge jump in sizes, there will be near zero impact on cooling one way or the other.

is it the haild SP2 for win7?
the one that came out like 2 months ago?
if its that its absolute nightmare
I used it 2 times
suer enough, everything went fine until after all is said and done, I went online to check for updates after that update

it was littearlly 3 days of win update, well granted I restarted the PC after first 24 hours, but still 2 days of updates...

after that I always just install 2 updates
KB3083710
KB3102810
and let it fo online, shits done after few hours
>>
>>55820159
> I used it 2 times
I don't know man, I used it around 15 times now, and it worked flawless every time.

1) Make sure it's a clean install, disconnect network cable, of course.
2) Install W7-Convenience-Step1-Windows6.1-KB3020369-x64
3) Install windows6.1-kb3125574-v4-x64
4) Go online, update

Without this I waited around 8 hours with an SSD fitted laptop, and in the end it started to roll back updates after installing like 100 of them... FML.

Windows 7 updates are just broken in general. The convenience rollup doesn't impact that either way, it just reduces the number of updates you have to download initially. The updates you want to do now are 3102810 and
3138612. People also recommend 3153199. You still probably want to let windows sit overnight to download updates. If you want to do the convenience rollup follow this

1. cpu needs to go to i5 to have any worth in upcoming years
2. scrap heatsink, not needed, can be bought any day
3. cheaper mobo, ~$60 think - GIGABYTE GA-B150M-DS3H
4. fuck the hdd if you got ssd for now

now you got money for 4 core cpu instead of 2 cores
while adding hdd and heatsink down the road will be trivial

- Different ThinkPads will have different CPUs.
My T500 had a P8600.

1. i3 is fine IMO. But you can indeed get an i5. The extra power consumption is negligible, and there are no big features in Skylake.
A 4xxx series i5 costs the same, and it's more future-proof.

2. Keep the sink, you will need it. It was my worst decision NOT to buy one when I bought my build. Stock cooler cannot turbo for long. With a cooler? All day everyday, baby.

3. You need the HDD. I have a normal sized game library and I can't fit on my 1TB HDD. But, if you have a HDD now, you can skip buying one now.

4. RX480 meme.
It's a shit. Vulkan is just as rare as DX12 now. This card will be obsolete by the time.

Here is my edit:
http://pcpartpicker.com/list/DmB4nn

- You can pick a different mobo, this was the cheapest. It's easy to pick one, just check what connectors does it have. Is it enough for you? Ok, it's good.

- You don't have a PSU in the build... ?

- It's a tiny bit more than the i3 build but as I said it's more future proof.
>>
>>55820792
>>55820891
Agreed the 960 sucks.
- Wait for 1060.
- Buy a used 780 Ti (?)

I bought a 780 used, it was 150$ and it's fucking awesome.
3GB of ram sure, but meh, who cares.
Power wise it's a hungry beast, but then again, if running my PC makes me bankrupt, there are some bigger issues I have to face.

You can't ever completely disable windows 10 telemetry.
Microsoft is actively pushing towards making this ever harder to do as well - see the recent group policy change (which really insidiously simply ignores user settings altogether, without notifying the user in any way) for example.
You should not support this operating system.
