And they're going to double the amount of those after the next week's update:

It's pretty obvious they want computer-savvy people to buy the future suscription for the Enterprise version, even for their personal computers, like an Office 365 but for Windows. They're slowing making the Pro version less and less acceptable with shit like OP's link. Just paving the way for now.

Good to have Edu, then.

But still, thats one key I have and laptop have "Pro".

I was more worried when I saw the title, but it is more annoyance than real threat. "Turn off Microsoft consumer experiences" brings third party apps, sure, but I already got rid of all of them manually, without even realizing that there is such option among Policies. Unless there is something I miss?

"Do not show Windows Tips" or "Lock screen" ones arent real problems, to be honest. First is more a little annoyance at worst, second - I dont see a problem, really. In my case, it just shows current hour and day, hardly top secret stuff. Same for "Disable all apps from Windows Store" - I didnt even realized that this was an option.

Really, it would be REAL threat, if I wouldnt be able to block online searching (linking Bling searching with Windows search function) or set up updates to "notify for download and notify for install". Cortana is not avaible in my country and most likely wont be for a long time - if any, she will come as separate package and with proper tools, provided by MS, you can still hide updates (yet, it should be already included, those dumbheads).

Stop scarying me like that, /g/.

>microsoft: okay ladies & gents time to put the poo to the loo and usher in a new age of faggotry. really

this is just upsetting. wasn't dx12 the only reason to go over to win10 in the first place? but basically every developer and publisher are pushing in favour of pic related so why not just upgrade to win 7 or 8.1 while you still can?

i mean i thought anniversary's were supposed to be an event for people to be happy about, like 20 years of pentium when intel unexpectedly made an unlocked low-end haswell as a nice consumer-friendly tribute to the brand.

Microsoft seem to take it as a prompt to finish hilting their corporate cocks in everyone's now-loosened and thoroughly lubricated buttholes.

Microsoft has never made any appreciable amount of money off regular users. Piracy is rampant for Windows and massive bulk OEM sales aren't extremely profitable overall. They made their money with businesses and services.

But with Windows 10, they could shift this. But offering the OS for free to everyone and turning it into a massive advertising hub with an integrated store, they have turned the relatively low profit consumer market into a money making force.
>>

I don't know, crawl up and die maybe? Their response to every technological revelation for the past decade was to stick their thumbs up their asses.

In 2001 Microsoft decided Linux did 9/11, and then announced their console because pc gaming is dead u guise :( and then like two years later Valve created their own DRM, which now has a fanbase that would defend them if they got caught selling drugs to kids. This is a fantastic example of why Microsoft is doing things wrong and has been for a very long time. Digital distribution became easier, and then they decided the solution was to "lock out" the pirates behind console exclusivity instead of capitalize on it. Then they never updated their browser, which they brought back again except this time they're hiding it from "add or remove programs."

Now, over a decade later, Microsoft is saying "Hey guys this new innovative technology is brought to you by Twitter(tm) lmao too bad you can't uninstall any of huh?" As soon as it became the norm to patch software releases online Microsoft should have considered what their business model should be. Because no matter how bad Windows 10 is, it won't take away from the fact that every single Windows operating system has no reason to exist other than "we need to make more money to justify all the free patches we do."

It's not that "Windows 10 spies on people, Android doesn't." It's more like "Isn't it cool how the tech industry can make free software by monetizing data? Why don't you buy our operating system and let us also monetize your data?"

re: games

does microshit run the game?
nobody in the gaming world goes through it
it's about the drivers and nothing else
it's about control

microshit windows has nothing to do with the game

openGL = silicon graphics & the industry/professional standard

they provide nothing but distribution control/limitation -- microsoft is about suffocating innovation, nothing else

read the steam guru this week about what microshit will do -- they will put it into their shitty app distros and keep it buggy until it dies

they are about brute force, muscle, nothing else

brute force, muscle is the way they approached their code -- their entire base won't run without fast PCS because it's utter garbage, a mess, badly written -- they are locked into the closed model that nobody understands within their organisations, even, & having to abandon

it is meaningless - they can't even be examined
they can't be examined - an advantage to them, because it is such an embarrassment. They were never professionals, from the start -- decades of wastage & now on a heap of complexity which reflects the organisations that rely on them (those also, cannot compete)

linux allows dual booting
microshit, you insert the disk and it ignores everything else - completely obliterating it

like technological progress in the last few decades (the most suffocating, stifiling, ignorant, industry monopoly in human history, regressing it)

the privileged little dickhead elevated

IBM left it to gates because they needed a micro-bomb, there was nothing their organisation could control

what was needed was a privileged hoodlum with no morality to expand the market

it was always going to go -- but m$ ran out of impetus in 1995

But with Windows 10, they could shift this. But offering the OS for free to everyone and turning it into a massive advertising hub with an integrated store, they have turned the relatively low profit consumer market into a money making force.

why they have turned any op control of their OS off, the day after ceasing their free upgrades .. they have captured a dumb audience now they're shutting them down / converting them into media feed/exploitation

they know all info about a user, right down the the key level (which their EULA states is 'required for support/debugging).

Here is whats going to happen, you're gonna download Ubuntu or mint and then try it with the USB, it will look cool at the beginning but once you start up your browser you will notice terrible lag, especially if the website uses flash or any hardware acceleration, then you will try to install any application you currently run on windows and notice only the bare essentials are compatible, you will then try to run a game to see if you can get any entertainment out of it, but nope steam wont install, you will need a lot of twinkling in the terminal, and even if you manage to run a 3D application you will realize the driver support is shit and you cant use your PC at all.

This is how it went:
Loaded it up from USB. Installed Hardinfo and GLmark2 to perform benchmarks tests before I bothered installing. Then I decided to click a thumbnail on the desktop titled "INSTALL MINT." I went through an install process similar to Windows.

And then I loaded up a program called "Software Manager" which is Ubuntu/Mint's equivalent to an App Store. I installed "Skype" and "Steam" and then I installed some Linux compatible games. That was it.

I honestly don't think there's any cause to panic

At the rate that MS is turning into a third world business, W7 and W8 will continue to be supported by software companies long enough for alternatives to appear

worst case scenario is that you may have to use (gasp) some really old software, well I used netscape 3.04 for about 15 years, and I didn't feel left out in any way, you just slowly adapt and new opportunities appear

Really surprised at the amount of people that still are putting up with Microsoft's bullshit after the shitfest that is Windows 10. Being public about mining data should have been an instant red flag to switch to another operating system. Seeing people panic over their updates, downloading placebo anti telemetry software, and just giving up with embracing the botnet is pretty bad. I don't play much vidya anymore aside from emulation, so I went ahead and tried ganoo slash leenoox. It was frustrating at first since I've been desensitized to M$, but I ended up loving it. Windows is fucking garbage, holy shit everything is better here. If anything you can go even further beyond and make a Windows KVM so that it can live on the corner of your drive. You would keep the nice OS that is ganoo slash leenoox and have your gaymes and other software on M$ as well.

There are a ton of games available on Steam for Linux now. Just not the AAA titles. Often for stupid reasons too. Like DRM, which is literally the only reason DOOM 2016 is not playable on Linux, since the DRM-free alpha builds ran flawlessly.

And even beyond all that, you've got the entire catalog of games from the Wii, Gamecube, PS2, DS, PSP and prior consoles available. Linux is perfectly fine for gaming if you don't fall for marketing.

Ok but consider that it's not the same using a product because you need for a developer

Also:
>if my broadcom wifi card and nvidia optimus settings will work ootb
your condition is funny because practically nothing works ootb on windows unless the drivers are installed by the company who sells the hardware, i know you cherrypicked some hardware that is known to be problematic on linux but it should work fine if your distros supports that hardware.

Regarding broadcom go to the additional drivers tab on ubuntu and you're done.

Regarding optimus is problematic and is actually one of the reasonf for the linus middle finger to nvidia but there's bumblebee and prime:

I don't understand. What exactly does this do? Hide the product number?

Are you retarded?

Not him but I am, please explain.

Hopefully this will kill MS and something better will just replace it

About time we got a real alternative, now's the chance for some company to actually pull something.

It's the same type of shit that killed image hosting sites or realplayer and kazaa and all that gay shit nobody uses anymore, they stopped actually doing what people want first and foremost. If W10 is an ad botnet this is the perfect time for jewgle or someone else to pump out a PC operating system.

Are you ready mah niggas?

I played games on Server 2008 R2 for a while.
>>
>>55810826
Carefully read what it says before and after in the activation section, and then you'll feel silly for asking.
>>
>>55810792
rather it sets up a server on your pc for authentification.
connects to it and tells windows its authenticated.
the server will start at boot time from then on and redirect any attempt to check if windows is valid. thus giving it genuine status for as long as you want.
microsoft doesnt check for these things just if your local windows is genuine.
they dont even check keys.
>>
the fact that W10 borked my drivers so hard that had to rely on 3rd party software to fix it is more disgraceful than all the ads and shit tbqh

I thought one of the whole selling points was 'it just wurks' (tm)
>>
It's not a free OS. IF you aren't upgrading from Win7 etc, then it's $200! $200 to be spied what a fucking ripoff. I'm never leaving linux again.
>>
>>55810937
windows 10 borked my intel drivers really hard.
i got my second monitor on my motherboards hdmi port to lessen the strain on my gpu and because it was one of the only ways to get intel quicksync to work on windows 7.

after i upgraded when i put something on my second monitor it would bluescreen my pc.
not even the shitty neo windows error messages but legit bluescreens.
shit pissed me off to no end until i rolled back to win 7 and then manually blacklisted all updates related to win10.
>>
What to use as Hypervisor for passthrough VMs?

Xen?
>>
>>55810889
No I already feel silly, I was following the discussion but I still don't get it which is why I admit I'm retarded.
>>
>>55810937
>>55811016

When you roll back does it still bork the drivers and stuff?
>>
>>55811103

yup
>>
>>55811132
Well shit, that settles it then, no way can an idiot like me figure out how to unbork drivers, I wasn't even the one to set it up.

No that's a mac.
>>
>>55803484
This.I really hope devs will use Vulkan instead dx12.
>>
>>55806125
This is pure horseshit. I use wine to game on OS X and it's fucking terrible. I also used it on ganoo + loonix for years, and the most I got it to do was run photoshop cs5 32-bit for when gimp fell short. Wine is a steaming pile of shit and you're better off finding native alternatives to whatever the fuck it is you're trying to run. Or buying a really good GPU if you're using it for vidya.
>>
one of the biggest no-no's of W10 is its heavy use of your bandwidth without your knowledge or permission
>>
>>55810714
No offense but subscription was a thing already. And Enterprise used subs + VLs. Now they change around the subs, that's it.

>>55810729
They said this since forever.

There is nothing new here, not to defend MS, but this is just shady journalism.
>>
>>55802770
is not like gaymers are the brightest minds, they are continuously cucked in buying new house fire devices

How come when I downloaded this Avast calls it Win32:malware-gen?
>>
>>55808344
because is basically ubuntu but edgier because its founder told some shit about israel
I personally find no reason to prefer it to ubuntu now that the amazon shit was removed

It wont if the first thing you do is kill all the uplinks in the host file. I havent seen a single ad because shit simply is routed to 127.000.000.xxx, so just delete the tiles, edit the host file and you wont ever see shit.

Killing the automatic updates also helps, that way Microsoft cant just force this shit on you.
