2 questions:

1.) How do I make use of these labels? I can't find anything in the settings for appchanx.

2.) Does the Education version of Win10 last forever or have any severe drawbacks in comparison to other versions? I can't believe I can get what's basically Enterprise for free so easily through my uni.

Posted in last thread, sorry. So I'm gonna set up a recovery drive of win 10 on a flash drive using the media creation tool (this is the video, bad quality but seems to work for pajeet https://youtu.be/ZWEft3g7oHQ). The question is can I do this after I use DBAN on the hard drive? I don't have the product activation key but he did it without the activation key. But since DBAN totally destroys all data on drive, will the recovery drive be recognized as a brand new win 10 installation media, requiring the product key?

Alrighty /g/, I'm an absolute noob when it comes to android, I just got my first android phone today (Vernee Thor (DW I'm outside US)) and a MicroSD card. How do I transfer files from my computer onto the SD card in a way that I can play music off of it? The phone shows up on my computer under the list of connected devices, but has no folders inside and I can't create new ones either. The automatic driver install hung for more than half an hour before I axed it and now I can't get it to come up again. I don't know whether that's because it's installed or because I broke everything.

Thanks in advance, have a doggo

Let's say I have a modern computer with no VGA ports, and I decided to buy one of those HDMI to VGA dongles that only support specific resolutions. I have an oddball vga monitor that I want to use that is 1280 x 1024. Well, that's simple, just use 720p, right? That isn't good enough for me. What I was is a custom display profile that has the 5:4 AR independent of the 16:9 resolution. Is this possible? Basically, I want it so that when I put the monitor on stretch, and I use the 720p resolution, it isn't a stretched image, rather an image with more horizontal definition than vertical. Pic related is just a 1280 x 1024 shrunk down to 720p and back up again. It's not technically less resolution because the 1280 is still there, it's the vertical that has changed. Can you make my display do that?

How do I mate transmission with samba ?

I have transmission running on my server 24/7.

Transmission user is torrent:torrent.

I also have samba that shares some junk from /media/data/shares/
Samba user is samba:samba.

I want to be able to see torrented files from my windows machine without copying them to /media/data/shares/ manually.

Is there any way to do it ?

anything I should change? i'm straight up going to kill myself if I spend another week trying to select pieces. nothing is set in stone so i'm willing to change anything. i mostly want to play older games (wow, stalker, skyrim, etc.) and the only new game i plan to get is BF1, that's why i picked nvidia

budget was $1200 but who the fuck knows, i've whittled this build down from $1450 to $1300 but I basically just want nice components. thing is i know absolutely nothing about computers

Anyway, looks fine. If you use this guide though you can get a 1070:

>>55792783
Why no get a GTX 1070 if you are going to play 1440p? it would be fine for 1080 mid-high settings but not really sure if it will be enough for 1440.

The monitor is really good.
The rest of the build is really good other than the unbalance between monitor and GPU.
>>
>>55792807
what's wrong with BF1? aside from the we wuz kaiserz an shiet, it looks fun
everyone laughed at me when i asked about logical increments

>>55792821
so both of you guys would recommend the 1070? i was trying to lower my overall price by going with the 1060. if i get a 1070 should I get a motherboard with sli support just in case? i didn't really plan on playing 1440p, i just found that monitor today, this was my original choice

https://www.amazon.com/MX239H-1920x1080-AH-IPS-Back-lit-Monitor/dp/B00B1IAL7W/?tag=logicaincrem-20

but i guess if i get the nicer monitor, i should go for the nicer gpu too, right? that brings me up to like $1400, so $200 over my original goal. should i just bite the bullet and do it?
>>
>>55792883
Well talking about those $1400 will last you 4-6 years i think its a good deal if you can afford it.

Dont buy reference cards, also you are overpaying for the founders edition.
Reference cards have lots of problems, and horrible cooling and overclocking (See GTX 1080 founders edition and RX 480).

Get your build right now and build it without GPU first, then once prices drop for the card buy it, the card is somewhat new so prices are high because scalpers and out stock everywhere.

here it is with the smaller ssd, down to $1220

which brings it to ~$1500 with the monitor

$300 more than I wanted to spend but I guess this is a really good combination, right? the 1060 wouldn't be great for a 1440p monitor so the 1070 is a must have?

The Enthoo Pro is a nice case but it defeats the purpose of getting an MATX mobo, I'd stick with the Evolv, I own it personally and it's legitimately the nicest and easiest case to build in I've ever owned. Windows takes up about 40GB for a large installation, so there's still plenty you can stick on a 120GB SSD before you start running out of room.

That mobo seems pretty good, you don't usually see Gaming branded boards that low, especially with those sorts of specs.

Monitors are pretty subjective, personally I'm fine with 1080p and I'd rather have dual 1080p monitors over a single 1440p one, so have a look at doing that maybe. I can recommend a couple that I own which have served me pretty well.

Stock CPU coolers are adequate for what most people want, the only problem is that they're noisy AF so a 212 is gonna be more than enough for almost everyone. Despite the fact that I've got a Noctua NH-D14 I wouldn't recommend buying unless you're doing *serious* overclocking.

The 250GB 850 EVO is only $30 or so more than the 120GB and you'll get some performance gains out of it so you may as well have the room, it should be much much more than enough unless you plan on installing your entire steam library on the SSD.

May as well keep the RAM and mobo, I usually just put out partslists based on what I recommended last time.

For some reason PCPP doesn't recognize that BenQ has any IPS monitors at 1080p, I've got a couple BenQ VZ2250s and they're very well made for how cheap they are. Check Newegg and the like for pricing. Word of advice is to avoid Acer and any unknown brands. Acer don't make good monitors up until the $500 mark.

I'll be back in halfa or so to continue

What's the FASTEST, cheap document scanner I can buy? I don't need quality, just SPEED.
>>
>>55794126
i think i'd be fine with 1080p as well, which would be nice because then I could go down a tier to the 1060 since I'm really maxing out what I'd like to spend already. that would bring the build down to like $1150 which is still over budget but a lot better since a 1080p monitor is cheaper

trying to decide on this build has driven me crazy

you seem so knowledgeable and i am clueless, if you have the time please email me at [email protected] so i may send you a possible final build tomorrow. it's 4:30am for me here.

IT: Sysadmins, the network and database guys, the rack-and-stack people.
CS: Developers, testers and QA.

There's always going to be some overlap. Sysadmins write scripts, programmers troubleshoot the environment. The point of the DevOps trend is to mush the two roles together. It's billed as making for faster and more responsive development, in practice it's an excuse to reduce headcount.

Some elitist will always pop up saying that the latter should be considered software engineering and that CS (and university degrees) should be solely the domain of theoreticians and academics. Unfortunately for them, CS has long since turned into a programmer's job qualification, and is treated as such by students, employers, and educational institutions.

I read something about creating another partition on your hard drive and installing it to that, letting it boot and register, and then wiping that partition once done, keeping your current OS in the process without the risk of anything fucking up over a direct upgrade.

Is this worth doing over just upgrading it? And would I have to create the new partition on my existing boot drive, or could it be done on my far more spacious storage drive?

>The comfy "off topic" rooms users all know each other. It feels like I'm walking into a flat I don't know because I saw light and but I'm too shy (and afraid of sperging out) to begin interact.
>Find a channel I share some interest with : Once again, I try to speak but I'm either ignored or can't bounce back when the subject changes
>No friends to start a channel with / No IRC friend to introduce me to his secret club

I would also like to know this.

Surface. It's microsoft's answer to the ipad. Microsoft doesn't want to make hardware, they just made the surface to show oem's how its done and try to motivate them to do better. Then it took off like crazy and so micrsoft is pretty much stuck making epic tablets now.
>>
>>55796421
Try running it from usb instead
>>
I'm running a;

I5 4690K
GTX 980 Ti
16GB Ram
1440p 144hz monitor

I'm getting 25frames running Ark: Survival Evolved on Epic settings and 50 frames on medium.

Can anyone suggest settings to optimize and improve the quality or maybe encountered the same problem?

(1)How do people get caught torrenting?

(2)Does using a private tracker, without vpn REDUCES or REMOVES the chances of getting caught?

(3)Where can I learn this kind of network common sense / skills to actually understand how things are working underneath the hood?
>>
>>55794847
For mechanical, no. But mechanical's a meme
>>
>>55794531
Best answer ever
>>
>>55794261
Then it doesn't matter. Whatever you do on that computer from now on, you can always reinstall 10 and it will activate automatically over the internet.
>>
>>55794106
Zero if you aren't planning on overclocking
>>
>>55793614
Correct
>>
>>55793141
Linux mint for sure

Anyone know of a good way to get passwords for sites? Specifically mrskin.com.

Ages ago I used IRC channels to request passwords, or used a program called "SuperMegaSpoof". I'ce forgotten what channels I used, and everything about SMS scream "virusridden ad/spy/mal-ware", although it did work when I used it a decade ago.

Why isnt there a browser that uses taskbar as tabs bar? Can I disable tabs on firefox to achieve this effect?
>>
>>55797773
If you are anything less than a full-time programmer/ someone who uses the keyboard 14+ hours a day, I'd agree. But if you get decently quiet switches it can be satisfying to use.

I would not pay a high premium for a mechanical keyboard though.

Your ISP (Internet Service Provider) monitors traffic. All traffic all the time. And when it sees that your traffic is going to a popular tracker point (lets say the new Game Of Thrones episode) They know you are pirating. Also torrent engines use specific ports and this makes them easier to monitor. Just look at the most common port.

This is what private tracker do for you. You dont use a common port, yo use an offshoot, second not as many people go to a certain point to download and this makes it less suspicious and this less likely to get caught.
A vpn simply makes the data you download a jumbled mess, But the access point is still visible. Also torrenting with a VPN is dumb since VPNs are generally slow or expensive making it easier to just buy the damn thing.

Just read any VPN and Private Tracker wiki and this will be much clearer

I dont know the answer to your question, but why the hell do you want that? My taskbar is already full of shit that I have running, clogging it up with my 10ish tabs sounds awful.
>>
>>55797906
Space saving. Also for windows, tab icons should be scrollable instead of squeezing into the avaliable space

1070 choices
MSI Gaming X, Palit JetStream
>negligible price difference
>stock clocks don't matter as I will be overclocking
>aesthetics wise, JetStream fits perfectly with my guts
>MSI has 8+2 powerphases, while Palit only has 8
>MSI is smaller in size
So MSI it is then?
>>
>>55797935
You can CTRL+TAB to cycle between tabs. That's like being scrollable I guess.

Is it bad to have fans blowing into other fans?
My case has a spot for fans on the bottom, right next to the GPU.

Is the GTX 970 still a meme card or had it been fixed?
>>
>>55798216
GTX was never a meme card. The 3.5gate thing was a fucked up press release. The card was designed to work exactly the way it did, and it was a good deal. But unless you are getting a super good price for it I would go current gen.

Can anyone recommend a gaming mouse in the 30 to 50 euro range? I want to consider upgrading from my Logitech m500. I have large hands, and benefited from the unlockable scroll wheel it had. I live in Sweden.

i heard there was a program that can bypass paying money to get stuff from android applications.
what's its name?
>>
why do electronics randomly bog down?
like lights randomly dimming and fans randomly slowing.
>>
>>55789762
No, the benefits don't really justify the increase in filesize, latency, drop in overall setting/extra hardware to handle it. And there's minimal content available. Neflix for instance only has horribly compressed 4k to save on bandwidth
>>
>>55790622
Yeah you should be good
>>
>>55798673
Because some fancy electric shit is happening between the three phases or something

-Browsing the internet
-Nothing else

Why do I do this?

About as good as they come. There's not any big improvements that i've noticed since then

okay thanks.
one more question though:
the guide recommends various locations to get the iso from, but why not just from microsoft themselves?

Internet explorer has both
>>
>>55798785
If you can get it from microsoft go ahead
>>
>>55798768
Root and uninstall it with some uninstaller app like titanium backup. Or just disable it.

Probably a brown out. Electric grids tend to have the power go below the normal wattage for short stretches without going out completely. It's not good for electronics, but it happens
