I was in the market for a Chromcast, which usually runs about $35 + Tax. But I was told that a cheap $30 chinese android TV box can accomplish the same thing with added features, such as having its own native apps, Kodi support, android app store support, ect. Does anyone here have any experience with these cheapo $30 android TV boxes from China? Is casting as seamless as it is with Chromecast? Is the GUI slow?

My parents have an amazon fire stick and i hate that thing because it has built in app support. Id much rather cast direct from an app on my phone or computer instead of navigating a clunky menu on the device itself. Also I don't use kodi but I'm pretty sure you can cast no problem to a chromecast

I have one right now.
Pretty neat, does the job.
Kodi support is all I wanted, but you have Skype and all the android shit support.

You don't even know
The Roku is the most clunky shit ever created

Ok. But how does it support display mirroring for phones? Does that work as well as it works on a Chromecast? Also, which model do you have?

I don't know what is display mirroring, and I don't have a smartphone.
I currently have a MXQ pro 4k with AMLogic S905, 38€ here in Yurope.
I know you can control Kodi from outside with a webservice, that means there is certainly an application to control it from a mobile if that's what you mean.

I want whatever is on my smartphone to be displayed on my TV. Chromecast does that just fine but if I can do the same thing on an MXQ with a bunch of bonus features then I'll get that.

nice market

I don't think you can do that with a MXQ in particular, and Android 5 devices in general.
Wait for Android 6 devices which is much more "TV device" oriented.
