Will getting a Redmi 3s over a 3 Pro be a good decision because of the android 6.0 support? I did a bit of research and found people saying that Xiaomi isn't going to update the 3 series, I don't want to buy a phone thats not going to be updated anymore.

Is it possible to change (lower) your screen resolution with a rooted phone?

2k resolution kills the gaming, even with a Snapdragon 820.
>>
>everbody hyping up the ZTE Axon 7

Ok, but the camera sucks, and cannot even shoot RAW pictures like the OP3.

If you are an audiophil who focus on soundquality, the choice is clear, otherwise I am sure the majority would rather see a better camera.

Can the Axon7 even record 1080p@60fps?
>>
>>55780984
Might want to look into the Nomone resolution changer. I believe you can alter resolution even on an app by app basis meaning those heavy games aren't so heavy anymore.

Xiammi Red Mi Note 3 Pro. There's no other choice.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 Pro (Snapdragon 650).
The de-facto recommendation for budget smartphones. Do not skimp and get the regular Mediatek powered Redmi Note 3, which doesn't even have microSD support (a necessity when buying phone with 16GB or 32GB of storage)

Pros:

MIUI
Qualcomm Snapdragon 650 is extremely powerful and power efficient. More powerful than the flagship Snapdragon 805, 808 and 810 in many cases.
As of now it's the only Snapdragon 650 phone out there, which makes it a no-brainer.
Excellent battery size (4000mah), and excellent battery life. Should last you much longer than a Samsung Galaxy S6, S7 etc...
Because it's a qualcomm SOC, you can/will get ROMs. This is in contrast to mania Mediatek (Helio X10 etc...) SoCs.
Basically improved upon the Redmi Note 2 in every way. If you're not completely broke, spend the extra $70 for the Redmi Note 3 pro, it's completely worth it.
Good build quality
In a few months, this will probably cost $150, which is the MSRP in China.

Cons:

Battery is not removable like the redmi note 2. You could change it but you would need to disassemble the phone. Then again the battery life is miles ahead of the redmi note 2.
You will need to get the 32GB variant if you want 3GB of RAM
Just released and in very high demand. This means retailers may inflate the prices and it may be hard to find. Check the prices below to get an idea of what you should be paying, don't overpay. Ask in the thread if you can't find a retailer selling at those prices.
LTE support in the US is practically nonexistent. (T-Mobile US has been proven to work using LTE Bands 2 & 4; other carriers are TBD)

Variants:

16GB w/ 2GB RAM Current cheapest price: $185
32GB w/ 3GB RAM Current cheapest price: $220

I bought it but I'm upgrading from a Nexus 4. Your G Flex is less of a obvious upgrade, with the SD800 and 3550mAh battery capacity.

My guess is you'd have to wait for the SD820/Exynos 8890 generation to reach this price before getting a really solid upgrade in value.

>use a GS7 Edge with dragonfly black external DAC

>>55782537

Used phones are a thorny problem.

The ESN that uniquely identifies the phone has to be "clean", which means it can't have been reported stolen, in order to be activated on a cellular network. There are many sites that provide an ESN checker tool which will report the current status of the ESN. However, in the case of phones which have been subsidized by a carrier, the ESN's faulty status is often not updated until months later, well after you've bought it secondhand.

Because the carriers are so delinquent (arguably intentionally so, to limit the growth of the used market and hopefully to redirect it to new phone sales), the process is a gamble.

>kinda interested in a galaxy s7

http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1225378-REG/samsung_sm_g930_32gb_gld_galaxy_s7_g930_32gb.html

That's about the best price going on a new SM-930F, which is the international (Exynos 8890) version of the S7. Its GPU performance lags the SD820 variant but reportedly the 8890 is more battery efficient overall than the SD820.

One difference between Amazon and B&H is that B&H offers their own 1-year warranty on unlocked variants (that are typically orphaned by the OEM when it comes to warranty). Amazon does not warranty theirs.

HTC 10? I don't care for HTC. Their internal design and construction are below average in my experience, so I tend to be biased against them. I would rate any variant of Galaxy S7 as, say, $80-$100 higher in value than an HTC 10. Of course, that's my subjective opinion but you did ask.

Order from Aliexpress.

300$ is exactly the Zuk Z2 which is the most powerful specs you could get away with for that amount of money (SD820+4GB ram). 5" as well.

The RN3P is great but the camera is on the weak side.

Alright, I got it sorted out finally. Wind's system is fairly convoluted to figure out.

So if you sign up for Wind on the $35/month prepaid plan, you are allotted a $100 WindTAB credit towards a phone. However, the prices shown on the page anon linked are deceptive; they show what the lowest price would be if you paid for WindTAB Boost, which for the price shown is $25/month in equipment fee.

Take the Nexus 6P for example. At $0 at signup, it is $25/month for 25 months or $600, excluding taxes and fees. The Nexus 6P is not worth $600.

I'll have a look around to see where you poor maple bastards can buy unlocked devices.

http://www.androidcentral.com/guide-buying-unlocked-smartphone-canada

That is a pretty good write-up on the subject.

As a comparison, I did as the article suggested and checked the Play Store for the Nexus 6P over a Canadian VPN outlet. The price listed is $399, which Best Buy also lists.

Newegg.ca has an unlocked phone category but the prices aren't encouraging and the selection isn't thorough. For example, the Galaxy S7 international GSM variant (SM-G930F?) is listed for a shocking $799CAD while the Moto X Pure/Play/Style isn't carried.

All taken with all, you're looking at finding what phone within the limited Canadian market fits you best, at least if you want new. If you're determined to get the best value while taking a commensurate risk, you might want to look at the used American market, possibly via eBay. Our AT&T/T-mobile variants often overlap with the Bell Canada/Rogers variants in terms of radio interoperability although you're going to have to do some sleuthing at sites like gsmarena to be sure.

All else being equal, yes--as was the case with the Wind subsidy example. I initially recommended the 5X from that list but I didn't spot the 6P at the same subsidized price.

If you were buying it yourself from the Play Store/Best Buy, then it's a matter of preference. Of the two, I like the 5X better for value but /g/ hates LG and will almost always pick the 6P instead. Lord knows why, given Huawei and all but that's just life here on 4chan.

Looks like now might be a good time for Canadabros to get a Nexus although the closer the HTC Nexii get to release, the better the price should be. The trouble is picking the point where the price and stock are both optimum so you don't miss out when they run out.

Question on this before i pull the trigger.
What's the lifespan on these? Ride share service apps are essential for me and i'm pretty sure you need the latest version of their software to use them.
I'm upgrading from a 4s that i've been using since 2011 and it's unbelivable that i can still use it today.

What do you mean by lifespan exactly? Literal MTBF? I couldn't say really. Moto's phones have historically been durable. Under Lenovo's ownership, that's been cast under a China-shaped shadow of doubt.

If you mean lifespan in term of OS updates, I would expect Android Nougat (7) to be the last full version for the Moto X Pure but that's just based on the common industry practice of ~two year support for Android devices.

My Galaxy Note 4 is lagging when I'm trying to play the Coalgirls Bakemonogatari FLAC Blu-Ray rips.

I've never ran into issues before these episodes.

I'm running Cyanogenmod and using MX Player.

I tried using Custom Codecs for MX player and it helped a little but still lagging.

Should I just give up on getting this to ever play?

Do modern phones still have issues playing these videos?
>>
>>55787022

No. From what I'm reading, Uber/Lyft works fine with anything running Android 4.1+. That is the case with most apps. My Nexus 4 is orphaned on Android 5 but the apps work on it fine. Android has dealt with version fragmentation since the beginning and has worked around it.

If you know, use and like Apple devices, then I wouldn't counsel you against continuing to do so.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-4/general/note-4-handle-h264-hi10p-movies-using-s-t2892819

I cursorily glanced at this thread and it appears the Note 4 has to use software decoding, which means CPU cycles. Later generation hardware has 10-bit decoding baked in.

Could also be a power-handling chip failure on the motherboard, in which case the prognosis is not so good. Check out the port and see if your friend is a ham-fisted oaf who can't into microUSB orientation.

About 50$ cheaper, SD650 is more powerful than SD808, it has 1000mAh more (4050mAh in total), 5.5" FHD IPS screen and mSD slot up to 128GB i believe. Cam isn't good, but it's ok.
The deal includes a 32GB SD card and costs 250$ in total. Your options are either this or a RN3P + 64GB shark for ca. 250$. So it's up to you. RN3P should be a better bang for buck.

It doesn't show information if you have it on the default likely, which is hidden info so random people can't hit the power button and see your messages.

To everyone else that says mediatek makes the Redmi Note Pro shit is retarded. My RN3P doesn't have any stable third party roms without broken functionality and using Nova launcher prime leaves it mostly like AOSP. There isn't a benefit of it being Qualcomm so far.

Hold up, are you using HERE Maps? Because I have a 925 as well and the thing radiates heat like a George Foreman grill whenever i use it. Plus sometimes it will not update my current position, even after closing the app or restarting my phone making the app useless. Shit sucks man.

>Is the Moto X Pure worth $100 more than the new Moto G4 if I just want a decent phone with an alright camera, decent office tools, and minimal bloat?

Moto G4 is not really worth it unless you get the Amazon version and root it to use as a back-up device. Moto X Pure is a solid value, and most definitely better than the G4. It probably won't get the upgrade to Nougat, but for what you get it's pretty good. Plus Moto Maker is pretty cool

If the incumbent doesn't take risks to innovate than someone else will. It's frustrating to watch capable companies like Sony and Intel give up the future because they're afraid to risk the present.

Dang, Axon 7 DAC + mSD is really tempting me. I've already settled for a OP3 and I can get it next month in yurop without the hassle of paying taxes and importing.

Axon 7 will probably cost more than 400USD in europe right?
Also I don't trust ZTE, I had a ZTE Blade back in the day and it fucking sucked.

Poweramp occasionally goes on sale for as low as ten cents, and the alpha version is undeniably the best android music player on the market right now there's literally no excuse.

I wouldn't be too upset anon. It's a chink phone. While it may have better specs for the price, not only are you gambling whether or not it will actually perform properly, the thing has shit reception on American bands. Don't expect decent LTE or even 3g coverage.

How well does CM13 run? I'm very tempted to flash it onto my Pro, but I heard the camera quality is worse than on Miui

Buy a 40$ screen + protector from Ali, install CM13 and enjoy a nice phone or sell it.
