Is there a reason to use mpv over mpc?
It runs on OS that respects your freedom

So no
What kind of world do we live in where it takes such a fucking extreme amount of convincing to get somebody to just fucking try a media player?
Install the fucking thing, throw in a basic config, and play a movie side by side, assess features and playback quality.

THIS.
Go to the link below, click on the highest 64-bit link available on the left, extract the file, open notepad, paste in the code below, and save to the directory where you extracted the player as "mpv.conf" with the file type "any" instead of "text", and then double click on the fucking program and drag a video file onto it. Open the same video file in mpc-hc and compare.

mpc is for music, to control the mpd server, no videos
mpv is mainly for videos, but you can play music on it too
thank me later

If you run Windows and are already using MadVR with a good config together with MPC-HC and it works perfectly fine for you, then there isn't a reason to change.
If you want something that works on OS X, Linux and Windows, is debatably better quality than MadVR (we're talking placebo here), that is portable (no installation required), but is a little harder to configure, you know where to go.
Reasons to use mpv are just that it doesn't come with shit that you don't need like audio or video converters and filters, it integrates with youtube-dl for watching youtube or twitch, and it's got a UI that doesn't come with useless menus that you never click on. It's everything you need and nothing more.

MadVRfags are truly the audiophiles of /g/
Huge potential but too much hassle for most people.
