How do you get work done when it takes light years to even compile X server.
>>
>>55771240
It doesn't if you upgraded your toaster that wasn't even powerful when you bought it in 2000.
>>
>>55771240
Gentoo installs faster than windows
>>
>>55771255
It takes forever to compile on my 2520M CPU i gave up. Aint nobody got time for that.
>>
>>55771267
Well okay sure, if you aren't going to install any applications like Firefox, Libre office, Xorg.
>>
takes me only 8 hours to get setup and ready to shitpost with maximum comfy.
>>
>>55771285
>Only 8 hours
LOL
>>
>>55771279
None of them come installed with windows as well
>>
>>55771350
Windows at least comes with applications by default. And comes as a usable desktop by default.
>>
>>55771366
Such as?
>>
>>55771240
it's not like if you don't watch at the gcc output it stops compiling
>>
>>55771396
Internet Explorer. Notepad.
>>
>>55771396
You want to list every application that comes with Widows? Why?
>>
>>55771430
>IE
I thought windows user never used that. However midori doesn't take more than 2-3 minutes to compile
>Notepad
Comes with most DEs like lxde
>>
>>55771240
Step 1: Don't use gentoo
Step 2: No problems
>>
>>55771478
Lots of people use IE, just ask any web dev, just the people who use /g/
>>
>>55771478
And how long does it take to compile, then install LXDE on Gentoo? Much longer than installing an alternative browser and word editor I assure you :)
>>
>>55771510
Takes less time than windows updates, I can assure you
>>
>>55771427
This is true. The added output literally makes it go like 4 times slower.
>>
>>55771519
But I thought we were talking about installing??
>>
>>55771527
Because Windows updates during installation
>>
>>55771240
it just werks
>>
>>55771240
How do you say it takes light years when you haven't even installed gentoo?
>>
>>55771537
No it doesn't. Besides doing a full update on Gentoo takes fucking ever.
>>
>>55771544
>startx
>fails
>>
>>55771569
Yes it does.
-Copying windows files
-Expanding windows files
-Installing features
>-Installing updates
-Completing installation
Also,
>Getting critical updates
You just got proven wrong

Furthermore doing a full upgrade on windows is more timesink
>>
>>55771240
>light years
nigga what?
>>
>>55771526
question from a gentoo newfag:
do you /dev/null compilation output, redirect to file or just grep errors and warnings?
>>
At least you've unrolled some loops in the meantime.
>>
>>55771623
Uh what Windows are you talking about? I'm talking about W7. You literally choose how you want to set up Windows Updates during installation. You do not install Windows updates during installation. What the literal fuck are you talking about.
>>

it's your fault

What are the benefits in using gentoo over debian esting fo example?

Control over which features are in your software
>>
I only compile xorg once every month at absolute most. Usually less often. I sync the portage tree, setup a small cron script to sleep the computer when the emerge process is done, kick off the compilation and go to bed. When I wake up I run revdep-rebuild and remove the unneeded deps while I wake up with my morning coffee, and repeat this about 4-5 weeks later.

>>
>>55773316
A few reasons:
For embedded development where size matters, and also from a security standpoint the more features you have in a software, the more vectors of attack there are. If you leave out support for things you'll never use you'll ideally be more secure.

Okay great. How does someone's political view directly impact the quality of the product?
>>
>>55773362
Size doesn't always matter :)
>>
>>55773316
Security, stability, size control and personal knowledge. Having the minimum number of possible attack vectors on your system is important when opening ports to the internet or doing development work. Debian has hardened sources, however Gentoo also does while still offering manual control over your personal applications.

Yes, debian is controlled by SJWs now, this is a fact and is reflected by how you didn't deny it.

SJWs are mindless sheep, they will gravitate towards anything trending without even thinking about it. I could go on and on but it doesn't matter if you just won't listen.

Idiots are butthurt about every change to Firefox since Australis, and also Brendan Eich got booted from his own company by SJWs so everything Mozilla does is their fault somehow.

arch has outdated packages that are not in aur, and aur has suspicious packages.
>>
>>55773468
Debian isn't bad, but you would probably like to avoid it because there's a lot of SJWs running the show now. Just move to something more 4chan-friendly like Arch or Kali.
