You should upgrade your media center, a new generation i3 with integrated graphics would be much more power efficient and would actually be faster for media center reasons, the iGPU on the new gen intel CPUs has hardware decoding for HEVC and VP9 so 1080p and 4k video decoding is nice and smooth. Your HD 4850 would struggle with anything 4k.

I plan on setting up my own media center when Kabylake comes out.

omg... and i'm over here shopping for pic related little boxes.
the only thing is i don't know my way around linux, so i'd have to pay for OS on the media center, bringing the price out of line with pic related.

...what? The 4790k came out in 2nd half of 2014. The GTX 980 also came out 2nd half 2014.

The literal only upgrade you could get right now would be the GTX 1080 and it would only give 20-30% improvement in performance.

A 6700k at stock would be slower than your 4790k and once both are overclocked they are essentially identical.

You're still on DDR3 instead of DDR4, but that's only going to matter in a few games, and even then only going to give a few more FPS.

basically what the fuck are you smoking, there is no upgrade you could purchase right now that would make sense.

>>
>>55765041
Because getting 100fps vs 150fps on a 60Hz monitor will make no difference.

For a GTX 1080 to even matter you need to be using 1080p 144hz or 1440p+ res.

Yes, for a GTX 1080 to be used properly you need to have a higher resolution than 1080p, or at LEAST be using a high refresh rate.

Even a GTX 1070 is overkill for 1080p 60hz.
>>
>>55765048

But even 60hz will be noticeably better than 40hz. Smoother.

Well movies are 23.976fps. So a multiple of 24hz is preferred. (which is why 120 and 144hz are used)

The point is, it would be noticeably smoother for media to be on 60Hz over 40Hz.

>>
>>55766514
It's generally a pretty easy thing to replace, however if the stock panel is 40Hz then it's probably a hardware limitation somewhere in there that would require a 40hz replacement panel.

You'd need to search some tech forums for your specific laptop model and see if someone has done it.

Thermal diodes aren't even designed to measure at temperatures that low. They measure TJmax and "guess" how far you are from it. The further you get, the more inaccurate they are. 30C is very far.

Well here is the question, do you think those thermal diodes are put in the processor for a reason or just because Intel has nothing better to do with their money?

They are there for a reason, and that's thermal throttling. If you're not at thermal throttling threshold, they serve no purpose so there is absolutely no reason for them to be accurate.

Yes, my child.

Speccy is broken for the GTX 1080s. It's actually 8GB.

>>55767565

But still what? I'm waiting for a decent 30+ inch, 4K, 144Hz, G-Sync compatible, 1 ms response time, and has decent black to black times.

>>55770230

Ugh. I wish.

Speccy is bugged for GTX 1080

Cite a reliable source for your claims if you're so inclined. I find it very hard to believe that the measurement is inaccurate at low temperatures just because it might as well be.
>>
>>55771330
They better fix that before my GTX 1080 arrives.
>>

They are using a very simple method for measuring such as resistance at temperature X. It's not that the sensors are inaccurate because they might as well be, but rather they are inaccurate because there is no need to build and calibrate a more complicated sensor. It isn't required to fulfill the purpose they are there for.

I mean AMD processors often report sub ambient/ambient temperatures, which is fucking impossible for one thing.

Oh yeah, and I should mention that idle temperatures literally don't matter. Anyone who ever talks about idle temperatures is a tech illiterate retard. You gain nothing by having low idle temperatures.

That's almost the same thing I said, you autist. And it makes no sense. If it can be accurate enough, it certainly is. Inaccurate measurement is to be avoided wherever possible, that's a basic principle of technology.

Cite a source. This should be common knowledge if it's true.

Is it common that it doesn't detect what RAM I have? It's 16GB Crucial.

Also, my HDD isn't recognising on my PC, anyone know why, I know this isn't the thread, checked in BIOS and Disk Management. Probably hardware issue? Move it to a different SATA port?

Here's some information about it.
And it's not common knowledge because nobody fucking cares. Anyone smart enough to understand this only cares about the actual distance to TJmax value, because that's how they can determine whether their overclock is sustainable or not.

Also you're the one who is autistic because you care about idle temperatures which do not affect any functionality of a PC and only serve to aesthetically please you.

Current build is about 4-5 years old. I want to upgrade so that BF 1 is on the highest possible with steady 60fps. What should I be upgrading? I plan to make purchases some time around October.

Also, is 1440p 60fps the current thing to do these days?
>>
>>55771962

Yes. 1440 @ 60 or 144 is popular.
