So a quick stupid question since I am getting too many irrelevant google results.

I have a retail CD key of win 8.1 so it means I can take it from system to system as I please.
I upgraded to windows 10.

So does that mean during a new installation I will enter my old win 8.1 cd key ?

if you can, try it in virtualbox
learn about partitions, there's no reason to remove windows xp if you have enough space on the hard disk.

you can dual boot xp and ubuntu, just in case you fuck something up with ubuntu (can happen if you're a noob, i removed my whole DE for mistake) you can go back to xp

i would shrink the partition with xp and install ubuntu on the remaining free space

you can make a bootable stick with unibeast from the VM, then use the disk to install osx on the hard drive.

you should do this because it will recognize and adapt to your hardware.

or at least that's what normal operating systems do, not sure about osx

Does Toshiba manufacture good, reliable external HDs? I mostly intend to use it to store animays and films. Also what filesystem would be adequate for that (I'm on Debian). Someone suggested exfat in the last thread

binge eating, anorexia, and bulemia are actual diseases similar to addiction. theyre stonger than a habit and often require clinical support.

whether addiction is a disease is medically unquestionable but philosophically debatable and i have little doubt youll disagree about the latter.

binge eating disorder is different from eating a shitload.
>hiding large amounts of food
>eating yourself sick
>focusing on the food so much that it elicits a positive emotional response
>eating little in front of others but eating a lot in private

its very similar to buliemia it just has significantly less vomit.
>>
>>55754946
So my point stands, it isnt a medical mental disorder.

>>55754811
>>55754901
Might want to take it to >>/fit/ they'll probably have better help.
>>
>>55755020
no it doesnt.

if
bulemia = disorder
binge ≈ bulemia
then
binge ≈ disorder

at the very least its close and as i have already said its more than a habit, its much closer to addiction. it has nothing to do with what you eat, just how you eat. if you dismiss binge as not a disorder then at the very least you HAVE to dismiss anorexia and early bulimia because the phisiological solution is to "just stop" but eating disorders are not just phisological but instead psycological because something changes in your mind at its core and it takes a lot of effort and usually help to correct it.

youre right in the sense that eating like a fat slob is not binge eating disorder or a mental disorder at all.

but much like a cold and meth addiction, binge eating disorder is (medically) unquestionably a disease.

A vast majority of mental illnesses can be described as "weak will". They're not actual illnesses, they're defects and psychological issues arising from being unable to deal with them, or being too defective to exist in normal society. But the word "illness" makes people think they can be cured.

>comparative fallacy
a) comparative fallacy is when you make an incomplete comparison such as 'pink is better' because you cant refute it cause you arent comparing it to anything.
b) what you think it means is called the composition/division fallacy (i.e. what true about one thing is not neccesarily true about all things)
c) i did not violate either as that was my conclusive statement saying that it is a disease in the same sense of the word as other diseases.
d) fallacy fallacy, im not wrong just because i did a whoopsie and commited a logical fallacy (which i didnt)

quit self inserting and learn to make a proper argument you fucking dimwit.

For quiet while still having good cooling performance you would probably want whichever one has the largest diameter fans. You could then use something like MSI afterburner to set a manual fan curve to keep it the fans running slower. You might have to deal with slightly higher temps, but you could just make sure the case is well ventilated and live with it.

Or you could really buy anyone that has aftermarket fans and some sort of sound proofed case. I have a Define R4 and it is scary how quiet it is while running. Still not my favorite case tho.

If your MBP is older than like 2012 or so, it has old EFI 1.1. It *MIGHT* be possible to install Linux on that and get everything working right, but it will be far easier to boot the CD in BIOS mode and install it like it's Windows. The boot menu will show it as Windows when it's installed. Either roll with that or install rEFIt in the EFI System Partition to get a different boot menu.

I didn't get a CD Drive. But I have one in an old PC, would it be useful to rip it out and put it into my PC, just to install all that? I have two or three CDs, one for my 980Ti, one for my mobo and another one for something else I think.

Also, for some reason, I connected the PC to my monitor via DVI-D into my 980Ti, but when I turned it off and moved it to my room, I plugged it via HDMI into the mobo port and nothing showed up, same when I put it into the GPU, then when I put the DVI-D cable in, it wouldnt show up on screen, I had to put it into the DVI-I slot to get it to show up.

I have a GIGABYTE Z170X UD5 TH mobo, if anyone else has one, did you ever have the Error 51 issue on the Debug screen on the mobo? It's a memory initialisation error that idk how to fix.

You need to install the drivers for everything to work correctly, the videocard is an example.

Install videocard drivers from the Nvidia site rather from the CD, do this as soon you finish with Ethernet drivers.

Unless your HDD came pre-formated you need to reformat it to NTFS.

RAID 0 doesn't require much processing at all. Even if you don't have a RAID controller or choose to use software RAID, the impact should be minimal.

Also, a piece of advice for anyone considering RAID 0 for anything other than a scratch disk: Reconsider. Rather than divide your chances of losing anything like other RAID options, RAID 0 multiplies your chances -- if any drive fails, you lose everything.

Posted in a thread last night but it died before I got a good answer.

Trying to set up a live usb with persistence. I already have a functioning live usb. In order to make the partition for the persistence I need to specify where it starts and ends. According to all the instructions Ive googled this should show up in parted like so:

> 2 2988MB 3050MB 64.9MB primary fat16

Which would let you know to start the partition at 3050. This is not the case. Instead I get:

> 1 16.4kB 8003MB 8003MB primary

Now, this is an 8G usb. So according to both parted and cfdisk it is taking up the entire usb plus 3MB. The real headfuck is when I right click->properties the usb it shows it as having only 2.8G of space taken up. As it should be.

How do I figure out where to start the partition?

Given our exchange rates and MSRP, you are correct it *should* be $500.
But right now there is a demand for these cards so the market reacts accordingly and prices go up.

So we already know you cannot wait for this card, so why do you whine about the price when something like local pick up is free.

and now to finally shut up your whining, the prices are equally inflated in the US as well.
Right now the cheapest on pcpartpicker is 429 US which ends up back to where we started at $566 cad

$Excel = New-Object -Com Excel.Application

So, I currently have a note 4. Considering upgrading in this coming April. The thing that bugs me is that most phones coming out now a days have no removable batteries.

Two questions,

2. Is it possible to have the phone serviced to replace the battery on a non-removable battery device?

I'm not sure if this is a typo or not.. but lets put things into persepctive you're looking at upgrading your home already at the time of upgrade it will be ~2-3 years old, yet you want the next phone you have to last your 4 years. Why 4 years when you upgrade every 2.

For instance, somebody told me !anonymous @ IRCnet

But no combination of what I've tried works in the server URL field of HoloIRC.
>>
>>55758654
No, just no. There is no PC game to APK conversion. Something like Wine could be possible, but it would have to run everything through user-mode Qemu anyway so it would be really slow. And basically never mind 3D acceleration, that isn't happening.

Best you're getting is DOS games or really old Windows games in a PC emulator.
>>
>>55758541
It is probably printing control characters. I don't know Ubuntu's terminal at all though
>>
>>55754071
BTW, if you put the DLLs in the same folder as the exe, you can run it without installing the DLLs into the system. Windows looks in the current dir and then system dirs for needed DLLs, so putting DLLs in the exe folder can be used to fix DLL version conflicts too.

i'd recommend just getting an enclosure + an internal hdd, it's often cheaper and it gives you more options

as for filesystem, that depends on a few things
if it's just going to be used in linux, then ext4 or btrfs are good choices, fat32 is the most portable, but the 4G filesize limit can be a problem in some cases, ntfs is a reasonable choice when using linux and windows (if you primarily use linux, then you could consider instead installing an ext4 driver in windows to access ext4 drives)

This seems like a good place to ask this question. Passwords. After reading around, it seems like the best strategy is to go for length, more or less, with something that isn't hugely obvious.

For example, my bank password is the names of several characters from different cartoons (also the number and symbol I'm forced to include.) It ends up being 20+ characters long, plus some of the names involved aren't really considered names by normal folk.

My thought is that being neither rich nor famous, nobody's gonna be trying to hack my account in particular, because what would it get them? (Not much) So it would just be a result of some kind of data breach. If such a breach occurs, there's gonna be a lot of passwords that crack a lot easier than mine, with a lot more money in them, on average, so I should be good to change said password when I learn about the breach before anyone messes with my meager means.

Is that a good way to think about it?

That's the thing though, it just seems too much. I'm not photo editing or anything. I just want to know that all the websites, games, movies etc. I see look like how they should.

I recently got the ASUS VS239H-P monitor, and it's default "Standard Mode" with Brightness(Backlight) set to 35, and Color Tone changed to "Warm" seems perfect. I don't even have to touch Nvidia's Brightness, Contrast, or Gamma settings because the Lagom LCD tests show that the Gamma, Brightness, and Contrast is already pretty set - which apparently is usually not the case.

Is that a known windows 10 problem? Should have mentioned I'm on it. Fuck. This never happened until I switched out all my parts. A week ago. I reinstalled windows today and it's still doing it. It also won't boot sometimes. It will start up and go to the windows splash screen, the screen will shut off for a second and flash a no signal sign, then go straight to a black screen forever. What the fuck is going on.

Going to wire my tower to my router and was wondering what kind of ethernet cable should I use. I have no idea about networking and just did a quick google search and found out there are different cable types.

Will it make a difference if I wire it with CAT7 instead of CAT5 apart from saving a few bucks? Long and short term that is.
>>
>>55759779
It can do 10 gigabit over 100 meters
10 gigabit is not currently consumer grade but it will get there eventually, probably within the next 10 years.
>>
>>55759779
Cat7 is technically better but will probably not show you any improvement currently at a much higher cost.

It really depends on your internet provider but ca5e is usually the way to go as it supports gigabit.

Audio question here.

I have a 5.1 surround amplifier outputting to its appropriate speakers, but I also have a pair of big floor standing B&O speakers that I want to switch in for the front side speakers. Is there a way to do this? I figure I need something that boosts the signal from amplified to AMPLIFIED.

Google talks about a DI box but i ideally want to have a single master control over all speakers with the one volume knob.

Define R5 was a much better case. Small tweaks but it adds up really quick. Problem is Fractel charges a huge premium for "muh asthetic".

Corsair has the 100R Silent at ~$60 that is nearly as good. Way better deal IMO for something that looks really damn similar.

I have two routers, and I'm trying to see if I can use one as a WLAN bridge/repeater. The setup is fairly simple. I have one router/modem that's connected to the Internet, and I want this one to be broadcasting an SSID and doing all the normal network tasks. For the other one, I want it broadcasting another SSID; however, this one passes on all the traffic to aforementioned router/modem without introducing anything to it.

I'm aware that it could be done the other way round, but I don't want it to work like that. Is what I want possible? If so, what's a general way of going about it? I have some documentation to which I can appeal, but it only works for the reverse of what I want.

First off, talk to a psychiatrist or therapist. A therapist will be more beneficial for you than a counsellor, since counselling mainly helps dealing with problems that cannot be fixed (eg. divorce, death of a loved one) whereas therapy is all about finding a way around the problem and getting rid of it. Honesty is key during therapy.
In the meantime, do things that take your mind off eating. Eating is generally a coping method for other issues (such as anxiety or depression) so you want to stay active in order to keep the thoughts at bay. If possible, try to spend time doing things you enjoy. Could be playing an instrument, doing art, getting exercise, spending time with friends etc.

Good luck, anon.
>>
>>55754889
As a psychology student, binge eating disorder is very real. It tends to be an unhealthy coping mechanism for other disorders like depression and anxiety. Some people listen to music to help mask their emotions, some draw, some play video games, and some just eat. And it's pretty hard to control since you fall into the trap of thinking you're helping yourself. You then associate your negative emotions/feelings with eating and compulsively eat every time you feel that way, almost as a routine, which develops into its own disorder over time.
Don't be so quick to dismiss others' problems.

Is there a difference between DBAN and Samsung's Secure Erase option in Magician? Don't use a router as a repeater. Don't use repeaters in general. They suck, they reduce your network's bandwidth by half, and they tend to cause interference in general. You can use the second router as a receiver and connect devices to via ethernet, or you can connect the 2 routers via ethernet and use the second router as a wireless access point set to a different channel. Don't try to send and receive wirelessly on the same device.

I posted here a few days ago about a bsod problem potentially related to my psu. I have been encountering random bsod's, and Im not sure what the problem is. And the strange thing is, I always get a different error message, which makes this all the more confusing.

Here are my current voltages according to HWinfo. Nothing seems really out of whack to me, but I could be wrong. I have been monitoring them since yesterday and they havent really changed.

I think this problem is either due to my psu or my RAM. My psu is a Seasonic 650 watt, my RAM is Kingston Hyperx Fury 4GB (2 sticks, so 8 gigs).

I heart the most optimal way to test RAM is to let Memtest run for around 4 hours. I only ran it for around 30 minutes and everything tested fine. Should I test it for longer?
