Sony will spend millions in marketing to make sure the PSVR becomes popular. The headsets are as big for media consumption as they are for gaming.
A couple more companies are coming out with new HMDs, and the ones already available have both sold in droves from their inception.

The PS4 has not even near enough power to run a decent non-motion-sickness-causing game. No amount of Sony money will change that. And with game I don't mean a tech demo, which currently ALL of the VR games are. Except the porn of course.

Stop kidding yourself, it will take years for the technology to become advanvced and cheap enough until VR might become a mainstream thing.

Pixel density and FOV along with tactile feedback are the top priorities of the hw engineering teams I can assure you. We will see gains in this area down the road. But currently, I only have issues spotting far away aggressors, but then again there is radar and modle size setting to help compensate until it gets better. But once they are within 2km or so, I can see em and all is fine once within gun range.I have had the most amazing air battles since I have owned the series. Which has been yrs. It is a sim game changer. Sure, not so much for your average teen market title.

And for driving, no display issues at all, it looks great..not as good as it can look, but no issues at all.

Hopefully Arma will add some VR to the mix..at least for vehicles.
