Its really just a powerful laptop, but file store with SFTP and Samba and as a torrent box because I don't trust Microsoft. Also one of my main computers that I use for coding and as a web app testbed.

Mine runs proxmox, which is a kvm based virtualization platform. On this I have a few VMs.

One VM runs sickbeard, couch potato, sabnzbd, and deluged.

Another runs plex.

Lastly another runs btsync as a backup server which backs up my family's stuff and also my parents stuff.

I used to run a lot of dev/test webdev VMs on there, but I've since switched to vagrant instead.

Guy you were replying to here. My "server" is a laptop with a screen with broken hinges so it doesn't move ever. My main laptop runs Windows. I would just use SFTP, but you can't view and scroll through images from within WinSCP. So the Samba share is for looking at my porn collection in bed.

Share, as in create a file share? No, Open Media Vault is also a good place to start, especially if you want to use things like Plex.

Yeah, they're decent enough. Make sure you update the firmware first though.

They have some limitations though:
