So I decided It was time to see what rooting was all about, and went from stock Lollipop 5.0 to Marshmallow 6.0.1 with CM13. Works great, only a couple minor inconveniences:

Would it be possible to get the Samsung-specific apps like Autodesk Sketchbook or Sidesync back? If not, are there any alternatives you might recommend? I'm still new to all this, so thanks in advance.

Sketchbook is not Samsung-specific.

Look at the /g/ wiki (linked in the sticky) to find a bunch of recommended software. Included in that list is F-Droid, which is a secondary resource outside of the Play Store that offers lots of nice apps with direct .apk download.

I meant the free version of Sketchbook that comes with the Note 3 and has the S-Pen controls.
