What exactly does a few button switches and a scroll wheel require to become a mouse?
Could I make a surround "headset" from a set of dangling, 1 in. speakers?
Are there cameras that can't detect IR LEDs? I'm trying to check lights with a tablet camera, and they're not lighting.

1. The simplest way would be to hook the two switches (and a sensor detecting scroll wheel movement) to an MCU. The MCU probably can't directly interface with USB due to voltages, so pass it through a chip that'll convert the voltage. Have the MCU frequency poll the sensors and send information to USB.

It is.

Many tech companies filter out IR frequencies from their cameras using software. I know for a fact that an iPhone front camera can see IR, but the rear camera can't

Plenty of micros have built-in USB peripheral hardware these days.
Bit-banging USB 1.0 has also been demonstrated on several micros that don't have supporting hardware in the silicon, as well.

... um, you can't do it that way.
> I know for a fact that an iPhone front camera can see IR, but the rear camera can't
because one has a hot filter, the other doesn't.

usually it's IR filter. You won't disassemble tablet camera though

It can detect IR from my remote. I guess these LEDs are just shitty or require much more power than what a mouse USB is.
