Be me,

I have an issue though, everytime I turn it on it takes about 5 minutes just to boot windows. I have a full clean install of windows 7 and whenever it does come on I try to open a file and the whole computer freezes and fully stops working. Any help??

Probably a broken HDD, replace it and try again

You don't need to learn any new skills.
You lose a shitload of power, but if you just want basic functionality it's fine.
It's like using a multitool instead of a proper knife.
