Is my rig good for online gaming?

Should be just fine at medium/low settings in recent games, mid settings at 3-5 year-old games, high settings on MOBAs.

Get a 750ti or a 780ti.

Cards like the GT 740 are not made for gaming. They're made for being able to use HDMI/DVI/etc. on something that can handle it instead of using your internal graphics, which are much worse.

They're terrible at everything else, especially gaming. $100 cards are usually a ripoff.

I've experimented with them before and couldn't return them fast enough. They're terrible. Even if you don't play games. It's better to get a GTX. Hell, get a GTX 460 SE 1GB. It'll be much better than that piece of shit anyways.

Always go with the 'long' cards. Never go with those small one fan cards. They're always trash.

Usually cards under the "x50" range aren't meant for gaming and are terrible value and quality. Example : 640 vs 650, 740 vs 750 etc.
So just buy a 750 ti which is dirt cheap and you can play most new games @ mid settings with around 50 fps.
