Last time I checked, a state-of-the-art SEM starts at 500k. Can easily to up to 1.5M if you need certain features, like FIB, various X-ray detectors/targets, ambient/vacuum, ..

you can get them on ebay for like 5k but they will be old, and most likely broken

not to mention they're kinda useless for modern research
