Only thing that's bottlenecking SSDs are controllers. Why do they use old ones like SATA or PCIe instead of making new ones?

Because that's what companies do: cut corners

How new are you to this

Because then you'll have to force everyone to upgrade everything which basically will kill the adoption rate, which in turn will kill SSDs.

Yeah, that is one thing but think of speed improvements and other possibilities.

unless you're using a high-end SSD like an 850 evo/pro and an older revision of SATA... not really. There's also the overkill PCIE bandwidth to fall back on for a while when mainstream ssd's do get too fast for sata 6gb/s

Motherboards have dedicated NVMe lanes, even CPU chipsets are including them.
AMD and intel are both baking in dedicated high priority pathways for NVMe storage.

More like think of the cost, when SSDs hit the public they had been already available for years for enterprise users. And forcing enterprise to switch all their gear just because a new tech is available is just not gonna happen. Unfortunately they are a big force driving tech adoption.
