I fell for the Unicomp meme, loving every minute.

This is a nice, solid KB. Kinda heavy. What I like the best though is that it's made right her in the USA. The keystrokes aren't as heavy as I was expecting either.

This KB harkens back to the office days of hard-ass black Folgers coffee, carbon copy forms, and crisp starched white dress shirts.

Finally got my whitefox in, ~4 months over the drop date (Dec drop closed, March ship date, July delivery).

And the keys aren't white, they're this yellowish off-white (maybe something like ivory?). It's not really noticeable on the keyboard itself (the aluminium helps), but when compared to the spare key tray or a keyboard with actual white caps? Noticeable as crap.

If you're thinking about a whitefox, be prepared to wait and double-check your order for quality.

Gonna get a pic against the Varmilo VA87MR caps once I have a decent backdrop so it doesn't look like shit.

Following up with a quick photo. It's night here and the overhead lights are so yellow it actually makes the whitefox keys look acceptable, so I'm using a white flashlight. Not the best pic, but it should get the point across.

The keyboard in the back is a still sealed Whitefox, and the keyboard in front is a Varmilo VA87MR. The keys on the Varmilo are the spare Whitefox keycaps from the tray in the bottom of the box, since I don't want to unseal the actual keyboard in case I need to send it back.

Good question. At the time, 65% boards were pretty uncommon, and this one came in a bunch of layouts (5 IIRC) and pretty much all the MX compatible switches as options. Add on a full metal plate and base (aluminium), programmable controller, and (supposedly) high-quality caps, all done by matt3o (same guy who made granite, so a trusted figure) without the price of a korean custom - it was an attractive combination.

I have it and love it.

I'm sure most of the thread will look down on it because it's gamer trash, but I like the feel of the Romer-Gs. I think they're a good balance between typing and games, and they've got an sort of friction feel to them that I like quite a bit.

RGB lighting in a keyboard that's otherwise pretty understated is nice, too. I use Aurora and have it set to show CPU and RAM usage on the F-key and N-key rows.

I'm considering on getting a better keyboard for my job. They use these shitty hp keyboards, and the one they gave me is pretty old and some of the keys get stuck.

I'm a first time buyer, and I've been considering getting brown cherrys, since I'll use it exclusively for typing.

The model I'm considering is the WASD v2, because it's uncompromising and can be ordered with dampeners (I don't want to annoy my co-workers each time I type). But $150/$180 seems like a lot for a fist buy.
Any other recommended keyboards? How good are the browns for a first time user?

Browns are pretty good for a first timer (it's pretty much tied with reds for popularity), but the WASD v2 dampeners are really just o-rings on the keycap stem. You can do it yourself cheap with time and patience.

If you don't need a numpad (TKL - tenkeyless for better search results), you can further drop the price to around $100, or less if it's on sale.

Main difference is the CODE has backlighting, a white plate, and LED indicators of the lock keys. That's it really.

Filco, Ducky, Leopold - can't go wrong with them. All are decently solid and built well for starting. If you want more weight, and don't mind the price too much, the KUL-ES series is a good entry (it's about twice the weight of my Varmilo).

Others: Corsair, KBParadise, KUL, Varmilo, CoolerMaster, any really. Many of your choices are going to be quite similar, so unless you really go looking, you're not going to get a really bad one.
