I'm having a bit of a problem here /sqt/ I hope you can help me out. For reasons I am trying to create a folder containing 200,000 copies of and image, but for some reason at copy 10001 it refuses to let me paste another copy.

I can copy and paste a copy, but then it would not have the correct numbering scheme at the end. why is it doing this and how can I work around or fix this issue?

How do I copy my file without changing the dates?

I often use the date created to remind me of things I was doing back then, but when I try to copy them to my new backup they all say created today, which makes it hard for me to remember things. I lost a number of dates last time, I don't want to make the same mistake again.

How do I remove Mobile Hotspot from my applications? It's bloatware from MetroPCS and while I was able to find and disable the other applications from them, I can't find this one anywhere in Package Disabler Pro.

All it does is just open the Hotspot settings in the settings of the phone. It's impossible to delete it or disable it. Or even find it.

Is there software I can install that lets me fiddle settings on my mic while using it on live calls, with stuff like background noise cancellation, etc

Note that it's a usb mic that doesn't come with software beyond AGC (pic related), and I do not have a soundcard (the on board Realktek HD Audio Manager only allows settings for speaker output).

There are these two courses called "Informatica" and "Technische Informatica" which are both bachelor courses.

The thing is, they call the "Informatica" course "Computer Science" in English while it's the easier, less math heavy and more web focussed variant.

The "Technische Informatica" is what I believe most people on /g/ refer to when they talk about Computer science. It's all about embedded systems, C++ and more heavy on math. They call this course in english "Applied Computer Science" or "Technical Computing".

Can I get the iDrive GUI to sync like Dropbox's in Ubuntu? I fucking hate Dropbox, but I liked the desktop thing that updated the cloud every time I tinkered with a file on my PC.

I am trying to make some changes to GRUB2. I have my new file all typed up and tried to drag it into the new location, but it says my permissions are denied.

After reading it seems I don't have full root permissions as the root account is locked without password. I have found a number of ways to permanently grant such permissions so I can deg the file to the new location, but for obvious security reasons I am looking for a temporary way to do this.

Is there a Ubuntu command that grants temporary root abilities in the GUI.

Now, when I close the game again the fans never calm down and is constantly blowing really fast and makes a lot of noise.
The only way to fix it is by putting the computer in sleep/hibernation and waiting for 5-10 minutes.

I've got a big problem, /g/. Something smelled like burning rubber in my computer.

Last night, I was playing Crysis 1 on my 2.5 yo rig, consisting of an Intel i5-4670k, AMD R9 280x (OC'd to 1100 MHz) and Roswell Hive 750 PSU. I just got the game, and have been having problems recently with the graphics driver crashing [spoiler]though I had no issue at all when I played the sequel[/spoiler] and the computer locking up.

I've been paying it no heed thus far, until last night when it crashed into a grey striped screen. After waiting for a few seconds to see if the driver would recover itself, I smelled an awful scent of burning plastic or rubber. I immediately killed the power strip, unplugged the computer and brought it to the room over with my workbench.

After taking the side off, I tried to locate the source of the smell, but it dissipated too quickly for me to locate it. I then scanned the mobo and gpu for any burst capacitors or scorch marks. Nothing, though the graphics card was a bit warm

At that point, I wanted to see what I needed to replace, so I got my brother to keep his nose near the case while I ran tests. I opened up Crysis and went to the same scene where it crashed, and then ran Valley Benchmark a couple times when neither of us smelled or saw anything. After 30 mins of testing with other intense shit, we still had no idea what the problem was.

What do I do, /g/? What could possibly happen where my computer crashes and creates a smell that dissipates quickly and doesn't repeat itself? I'm a bit afraid of running it for long periods in fear of killing the components for good or creating a fire. What should I do, or what should I replace to keep it working?

Right now I am trying to fix some connectivity issues on a laptop I was de-bloating for a friend. The machine is a Acer Aspire model 5750Z with a broadcom BCM43225 wireless adapter. This might sound dumb but how can I tell if this IDE hard drive I bought is used or not?

It was advertised as new but came open. Though its like a 10 year old HD form MAXTOR and is IDE so I assume its just new but open box or part of a bulk stock they have.

I am trying to recover a broken NTFS partition that I accidentally fourmatted as FAT32 (not zero-passed). Testdisk just says there's a "broken" NTFS partition that I am unable to do anything with (even after a deep search). UFS Explorer, however, was able to find the partition and recover all the files and directories. But it's not free, so I can't actually restore the data.

Is there a good free tool for this? I tried Hiren's and found nothing. I just want to restore the partition data, I don't need to recover all the files one by one.
