I use the addon OneTab. You press one button and it saves all your tabs to a single page and closes them. You can then go through the tabs later and organize them into tasks you can handle one at a time.

The thing that irks me about chrome is that the tabs get super tiny before they start being scrollable, so you can't even identify the contents of the tab before hovering/clicking it.
And they refused to add an option to hide the close buttons on inactive tabs for no good reason.

When I get too many tabs, I just save them all as bookmarks (there's a shortcut for that, though I always have to google it because I keep forgetting what it is), and close the lot of them. I still have them if there's anything I need, but they're not clogging up my window.

My gf has 3 windows with ~50 tabs each one constantly open, and she fucking kills the chrome process to "close it" so that it asks if you want to recover your tabs when you open it again.
