What does /g/ think about the Wayland display server/protocal as a modern replacement for the X11 Display? Wayland has little support for most Windows Managers but is much more minimal than X, has better performance and is much more lightweight. Also XWayland runs so you can fully emulate X dependent applications.

Its not going to be directly supported by the protocol
Its going to require either another application, or a separate version of a Wayland compositor that forwards the windows over the network.
As far as I can tell, it will be possible, but not as native as X
