Because it jumps to $250 with shipping and customs fees.

Gonna use it for an eGPU setup so it's going to be bottlenecked by the slow expresscard lane, also shipping fees would skyrocket.

I'm definitely not buying used graphics cards anymore.

I bought a used video card on eBay. The recommended power wattage needed is 500W but I have a Corsair CX430M PSU in there. Immediately upon installing it I had pic related. It's not the cables or my monitors, I checked. Very likely It isn't a driver issue as it affects the BIOS. It looks like a gpu hardware issue, but I'm not 100% sure. I bought a 500W PSU afterwards to make sure and it's coming in a few days. The seller (offering no returns)is claiming it most definitely is my psu and I'll needs "proof it's broken before I'll offer returns". I sent him pic related, but I need your thoughts. I have no friends with gaming computers so I had to buy the PSU and I'm a poorfag. I'm not knowledgeable of these problems but I really think this is a GPU issue. The bars Cary depending on what resolution I set too. I know it was a bad idea but what can I do for now to prove to eBay it is defective? Or maybe it's functional and is my PSU's fault? pls help /g/. That $100 is a fuckton for me.

I recently got diagnosed with a fucked motherboard, and I'm looking to replace it. Problem is, I built my computer four years ago (with help), my old motherboard is no longer available for purchase, and I've forgotten most things about part compatibility.

My old motherboard was a GA-M68MT-S2P AM3+. Basically, what am I looking for in a new motherboard to make sure it's compatible with my old parts, and capable of handling any parts I want to upgrade? (After the motherboard, I wanted to upgrade my old HD6850 to a RX480 at least, something in the $200 range.)

I'm trying to revive someone's ancient fucking shuttle PC because they can't let go, and have a place for the little piece of shit.

I installed them ubuntu mate, because all they do with it is browse the internet, and that went ok. Unfortunately, the ancient fucking integrated graphics chipset is something which nobody ever got around to writing software for, and the video output is locked in 640x480.

I noticed, however, that the thing has an AGP slot, so I picked up a Radeon 1300 for a couple bucks off Ebay, and slapped that shit in there.

Unfortunatey, it won't post with the card in there. Just sits there spinning the fans at full blast but never doing anything productive. It shouldn't be the power supply, I pulled out the old 250W shuttle supply and slapped on some ridiculous 950W supply, which should have plenty of juice. The machine still starts up fine wtihout the card in there. Tried pulling out the motherboard's CMOS battery for a while, still nothing.

Did I just get a fucked card? Or am I missing something?

On windows I've got an AHK script that binds alt + uiojkl to be home, up, end, left, down and right. I can use it with shift to select stuff, and I make alt + h and ; be control and left and right, so I can even jump words without taking my hands off the home row. It's fuckin great. It's like having emacs movement everywhere.

But I cannot get that shit to work on linux. I thought it would just be an xbindkeys bind to trigger 'xdotool key Up' but the rule
"xdotool key Up"
Control + i

does nothing in a terminal except stop the cursor from blinking, and changing it to Alt makes the cursor an outline, as if the window's lost focus, which happens if you leave the "Command" empty, too. Just typing xdotool key Up in the terminal goes to the last command, like it should.

I've got an xbind that makes that Menu key send xdotool click 2, since the laptop has no middle mouse, and it works great.

Why the fuck is everything so hard on linux? How do you add a custom resolution in Ubuntu without the terminal? Well first you fucking kill yourself.

>>
My GPU is coil whining, is it anything I should be worried about?
>>
>>55695726
Your sanity.
>>
>>55695705
most parts do degrade but its mostly only if it has moving parts. but yes newer software is more difficult to run and newer operating systems are more complex and larger so they are harder to run.

so its a mixture.

if it has ANY moving parts it will eventually break. if it has any chemical reaction (such as a battery) it will eventually degrade. if it ever becomes hot enough to modify atomic structure it will eventually falter. and eventually memory can get 'stuck' in place unable to be rewritten again. but those can take a long time. and its usually software that makes parts obsolete before them breaking.
>>
>>55695705
>Does hardware actually age
Stupid myth spread by retarded 12yo CoD players.

There isn't really "performance degradation" with time the way the myth makes you think.
For CPU's and GPU's. there is electron migration which increases resistance of the conductor pathways inside the CPU. This lead to a need in increasing voltage, thus current to counter eventual leaks and lost electrons "packets" inside cpus.
This increase the error rate in calculations of a CPU which increase the chance of software error or simply a BSOD.
However, regular non-overclocked cpus will hardly suffer from increased perceivable errors and BSOD before any other components fails.
For enthusiasts, this mean needing to increase the voltage of your overclocked CPU or reducing its frequency.

However, as long as you don't get a BSOD, performance will remain piratically the same.
>>
>>55695705
Hardware doesn't get worse as it ages. It does 'age' but it fatigue and wear don't slowly make iit slower, it just goes until it reaches a critical point and then just dies.
Software just becomes more bloated so shit feels slower.
You run the old versions of the software on your old hardware and it'll be just as fast as it was back then

if it aint broke dont fix it. if youre gonna get win10 (which is only good for dx12 when it comes to gaymes to be honest) maybe consider a 1060 or 480 or wait a while for the paper launch to end and AMD to announce their stuff.

the gpu scene is realeasing a lot of stuff so i wouldnt recommend getting a new one until shit calms down. if you like your current one i say wait until Q2 2017 then pick anything RX480 or better (GTX1060 is technically better but loses in performance per dollar to the RX480) it will be much cheaper to buy hardware thats already been made.

overpaying mobo when you have non OC cpu
get gigabyte or asus B150 chipset

I would sooner take 250GB ssd than 2TB HDD
do you need to hoard data instead of using your PC fast?
buy HDD later

overpaying PSU it feels

450-500W would be enough for your build if it saves money for something else
or rather a brand that rings, like seasonic than cooler master, might be the same price

monitor would need another $100 to feel decent I feel
its IPS so I guess not entirely shit, but 22" at 1080", shit will feel small

I like to fall asleep watching stuff, but I don't want the laptop to be on all night. I used to use Shutdown Monster when I had Windows 7, but I'm currently using a Windows 10 laptop that hates it. Instead, I just use the shutdown command in Run and set it for two hours.

However, the morning after it shuts down, it boots up unbelievably slowly. Is there any particular reason for this? Am I damaging the laptop by doing this?

>I would sooner take 250GB ssd than 2TB HDD
I'm looking at 2 SSDs right now:

A-Data ASP550SS3-240GM-C (240GB,55$)
and
Kingston SV300S37A/120G (120GB, 42$)

Or anything you can recommend at that price range.

When you shutdown Win10 through the start menu, it actually hibernates. When shutting down with the command, you probably shut it down for good, which means it will take longer to boot afterwards.

You can check this fairly simple with a Linux live disk/flash-drive:

If your win-drive mounts with one click, Windows has really shut down. If it doesn't, it went to hibernation.

So I put TWRP on an android device. After pressing power off in its menu it froze. The battery is not removable. After a minute the screen turns off and if I press the power button it lights up and it tells me to to swipe right to unlock. If I do so it freezes on that. Holding the power button does nothing.

Dead? Wait for the 97% battery to why trying to constantly keep the phone the screen at least on?

What type of performance increase would I get in DF?
>>

You don't need a new CPU.

none really. dwarf fortress only supports 2 threads, one of those isn't even utilized much, so it comes down to one core.
the 2600k is amazing for overclocking, so you should be running it at least on 4.2GHz already which should give you a little boost already.
