New GPU came in the mail and I'm postponing install until a new mobo comes in. I was looking at the card and found these two contact points labeled OC and OCP. What are they for? I couldn't find anything from the manual or on Gainward's site. The card is Gainward Phoenix GTX 1080.

Why does my computer turn itself on at 4:33 P.M. everyday? When it's turned off, no matter what, it will always turn on then, if it's not turned on already. This just started happening last week. And yes, it just happened 5 minutes ago, in fact, it's what woke me up.

I currently run windows in a VM that uses IOMMU for PCI passthrough, which runs on a linux host.
I was wondering how exactly you hook up a VR headset to a computer. From my understanding, it has a dvi or displayport connection for video, and for motion tracking and such has a USB connection. Can anyone confirm this? I don't want to have to actually install windows just to use VR.

Can you test if a psu will blow up/start a fire/create smoke etc. by just plugging it into an outlet and turning it on without any components attached? I got a smoke smell in my room and I'm trying to figure out if it's the psu but I don't want to damage my other components or start a housefire.

I'm definitely not buying used graphics cards anymore.

I bought a used video card on eBay. The recommended power wattage needed is 500W but I have a Corsair CX430M PSU in there. Immediately upon installing it I had pic related. It's not the cables or my monitors, I checked. Very likely It isn't a driver issue as it affects the BIOS. It looks like a gpu hardware issue, but I'm not 100% sure. I bought a 500W PSU afterwards to make sure and it's coming in a few days. The seller (offering no returns)is claiming it most definitely is my psu and I'll needs "proof it's broken before I'll offer returns". I sent him pic related, but I need your thoughts. I have no friends with gaming computers so I had to buy the PSU and I'm a poorfag. I'm not knowledgeable of these problems but I really think this is a GPU issue. The bars Cary depending on what resolution I set too. I know it was a bad idea but what can I do for now to prove to eBay it is defective? With a 600w psu, I'd only see you having trouble keeping it going if you're running multiple gpus, a shit load of peripherals (hdds, ssds, lights), or your psu is shit and not actually rated for 600w

I've got a case with room for only one exhaust fan. I want to get an intake going so I can get some better airflow, which I can mount onto a magnet arm inside the case. The entire bottom is ventilated, so I was planning on just putting a fan on bottom and getting air in.

I'm trying to revive someone's ancient fucking shuttle PC because they can't let go, and have a place for the little piece of shit.

I installed them ubuntu mate, because all they do with it is browse the internet, and that went ok. Unfortunately, the ancient fucking integrated graphics chipset is something which nobody ever got around to writing software for, and the video output is locked in 640x480.

I noticed, however, that the thing has an AGP slot, so I picked up a Radeon 1300 for a couple bucks off Ebay, and slapped that shit in there.

Unfortunatey, it won't post with the card in there. Just sits there spinning the fans at full blast but never doing anything productive. It shouldn't be the power supply, I pulled out the old 250W shuttle supply and slapped on some ridiculous 950W supply, which should have plenty of juice. The machine still starts up fine wtihout the card in there. Tried pulling out the motherboard's CMOS battery for a while, still nothing.

Did I just get a fucked card? Or am I missing something?

On windows I've got an AHK script that binds alt + uiojkl to be home, up, end, left, down and right. I can use it with shift to select stuff, and I make alt + h and ; be control and left and right, so I can even jump words without taking my hands off the home row. It's fuckin great. It's like having emacs movement everywhere.

But I cannot get that shit to work on linux. I thought it would just be an xbindkeys bind to trigger 'xdotool key Up' but the rule

does nothing in a terminal except stop the cursor from blinking, and changing it to Alt makes the cursor an outline, as if the window's lost focus, which happens if you leave the "Command" empty, too. Just typing xdotool key Up in the terminal goes to the last command, like it should.

I've got an xbind that makes that Menu key send xdotool click 2, since the laptop has no middle mouse, and it works great.

There isn't really "performance degradation" with time the way the myth makes you think.
For CPU's and GPU's. there is electron migration which increases resistance of the conductor pathways inside the CPU. This lead to a need in increasing voltage, thus current to counter eventual leaks and lost electrons "packets" inside cpus.
This increase the error rate in calculations of a CPU which increase the chance of software error or simply a BSOD.
However, regular non-overclocked cpus will hardly suffer from increased perceivable errors and BSOD before any other components fails.
For enthusiasts, this mean needing to increase the voltage of your overclocked CPU or reducing its frequency.

However, as long as you don't get a BSOD, performance will remain piratically the same.

I don't have an optical drive and I don't have a usb drive with a high enough capacity to put an OS installer on it. I'm wondering if I can use my secondary drive to make a usb from it.

6500 comes with a heatsink and will work fine

I got fractal define, older model, I personally would switch it in heartbeat for microATX version

the vga/hdmi/displayports/thunderbolts those are "outs" they are from the notebook to show stuff on external screen
they are not ins that you plug output of your PC gpu in them and show its stuff on the notebooks LCD

if notebook is working then you can send stuff from your screen to its screen, but if you are trying to make use of a damaged notebook screen it wont work.. maybe some esoteric thinkpads might have "ins" but I dunno

Any chance this is a mobo problem, or did my graphics card just die?

I like to fall asleep watching stuff, but I don't want the laptop to be on all night. I used to use Shutdown Monster when I had Windows 7, but I'm currently using a Windows 10 laptop that hates it. Instead, I just use the shutdown command in Run and set it for two hours.

However, the morning after it shuts down, it boots up unbelievably slowly. Is there any particular reason for this? Am I damaging the laptop by doing this?

When you shutdown Win10 through the start menu, it actually hibernates. When shutting down with the command, you probably shut it down for good, which means it will take longer to boot afterwards.

You can check this fairly simple with a Linux live disk/flash-drive:

If your win-drive mounts with one click, Windows has really shut down. If it doesn't, it went to hibernation.

So I put TWRP on an android device. After pressing power off in its menu it froze. The battery is not removable. After a minute the screen turns off and if I press the power button it lights up and it tells me to to swipe right to unlock. If I do so it freezes on that. Holding the power button does nothing.

Holding the power off button usually works, but after testing it a little it turned out that holding the power off button and up for the volume worked this time.

none really. dwarf fortress only supports 2 threads, one of those isn't even utilized much, so it comes down to one core.
the 2600k is amazing for overclocking, so you should be running it at least on 4.2GHz already which should give you a little boost already.

other than that dwarf fortress will run shit until it gets real multi thread support

having some issues with huge resolution images

I'm trying to resize an image in gimp from 10000 x 9800 to 20000 x 19600 and increase the dpi to 300 and then export as png.

every attempt has resulted in an unopenable image file that can't be deleted by any means other than command prompt.

what am I doing wrong?

I'm having a bit of a problem here /sqt/ I hope you can help me out. For reasons I am trying to create a folder containing 200,000 copies of and image, but for some reason at copy 10001 it refuses to let me paste another copy.

I can copy and paste a copy, but then it would not have the correct numbering scheme at the end. why is it doing this and how can I work around or fix this issue?
