Fly by wire doesn't mean the computer is flying the plane. It just means that electronics are used to control pitch, roll, and yaw instead of hydralics or other mechanical parts.

Nothing at all to do with fly-by-wire.

Air France 296 was caused by pilot error. The fly-by-wire problem was an unfounded accusation.

Also, there are many documented (ie not unjustified accusations) of fly-by-cable/hydraulics failing. Fly-by-wire is safer.
