Do you have firsthand experience or expertise on either one of those planes?

Burgers invented flying
Fly by wire doesn't mean the computer is flying the plane. It just means that electronics are used to control pitch, roll, and yaw instead of hydralics or other mechanical parts.

Except (in the wider sense as commonly applied to airbus aircraft) it means exactly that.

Boeing also fly-by-wire (in the 777). Thanks for playing.

Nothing at all to do with fly-by-wire.
>The investigators found the aircraft to have been airworthy, that its weight and center-of-gravity had been within limits, and that there was no evidence of mechanical or electronic systems failure.[2]
The pilots flew too low and clipped the trees.

Air France 296 was caused by pilot error. The fly-by-wire problem was an unfounded accusation.
Also, there are many documented (ie not unjustified accusations) of fly-by-cable/hydraulics failing. Fly-by-wire is safer.
