Example if I have a folder with images gifs and wembs, I want to be able to open one file and cycle through all of them using arrow keys with webms playing automatically like gifs, without having to open separate applications. I realize webm is more of a video format, but it's replacing gifs so I'd like to be able to view them like gifs.

Someone made a script for mpv that makes it work well with images, I use a playlist generator that autoplays the next video in a directory, I bet if you combined them you'd get what you want.

Hydrus-network is adding video rendering today as well but that's more for autists like myself who have almost 2 million images.

But wherever it's used it's replacing gifs, so it's trading one limitation for another. It'd be like asking for a bike for short-distance transport instead of walking and being told "just go by bus", yes it's faster in theory, but it's also less practical.

>>
>>55663908
I should have mentioned what script I was talking about, my bad.
https://github.com/mpv-player/mpv/wiki/User-Scripts
It's "autoload", it needs some configuariton though, I remember setting the max file limit to 9999999 and I think changing the file formats it grabs.

Ask the mpv thread on /g/ for the imageviewer script, that's the only place I seen it, maybe you could google and find it, I'd link it if I had it.

As for hydrus that's a seperate thing and it's located here:
https://hydrusnetwork.github.io/hydrus/

I like it a lot but it's not just an image viewer, it's made for image organizing via tags and sharing images via repositories and ipfs.

I really really like hydrus but I can't commit myself to migrate, not because I dislike the client but because I have so many images I'd need to tag. I haven't imported anything yet so maybe the PTR actually has most of it tagged, one day I'm going to do it.

For the most part, I'm not too picky about how I tag my images. I sort my images by board I save them in, and in a few cases, sort them by show or category inside the folder. I still keep the original folder structure rather than letting them delete it, and I honestly just add tags as I go and see fit. Thankfully, I can add batch tags on import so I just give it the folder sorted name.

It took me a while to convince myself to migrate myself, so I just take it one step at a time.

I don't let it manage my webms and gifs though, because that's where a lot of my filename bread and butter are

>I don't let it manage my webms and gifs though, because that's where a lot of my filename bread and butter are
You know I might ask the dev to do something about this, I know you can get a path link to a file but I wonder if there's a way to change that filename on demand, maybe by using something like "filename:whatever" and then you can right click > copy > file with name

I can already see all the possible issues with this but I'm still going to ask if I can remember and think of a good way to handle it.
>>
>>55663748

>>55665355
Yeah, I think he's aware of this and it's on his list of things to do, but not enough people have expressed a desire to wanting it and so he's been working on better optimizations. I think a lot of the mindset at the beginning was"Filenames are inferior" but then you realize that maybe filenames aren't all that bad of an idea.

Dev is a great guy though, love how he responds to all the feedback posted on dubchan. It's refreshing, and he didn't even want to take donations until recently. Probably one of my favorite programs and don't know how I managed to live without it.
>>
>>55665392
I might mention my desire for it too then, I wonder if a hacky solution with a note would be good enough, like just a caveat "don't have multiple filename tags or it won't work" kind of thing, and then a real implementation way later if anyone cares enough.

I was really impressed with the IPFS stuff, I was one of the people that asked for it, I like how you can just get a whole tag set worth of images and just paste a hash to someone else and they can just have all those images, and if you pushed tags to the PTR they'll be tagged as well. I have a lot of image collections I want to share but I want to make sure they're all organized perfectly first before doing that and it's a lot of work. I'm secretly banking on other people tagging them first or that AI tag suggester actually getting implemented, at least that would make it easier. It's crazy that that's a real thing.

Windows 10 picture viewer. Simple, fast, elegant. It has nice editing tools.

The best thing about it is that it knows your folder sorting. If you have Explorer with a bunch of pictures, and you sort them by date, Win10 Pic Viewer will browse through it by date.

If you want something more professional go for ZPS by Zoner. Is commercial but the free version is ok, you only loss the 90â„… of the editing tools.

MS is getting too silly with this whole Halo thing.

Besides that it looks alright, kind of reminds me of one of the versions of Picasa a little bit. Personally not a big fan of large UI's though and that seems to be a trend with "modern Windows apps". That term "modern" can go too, makes conversation annoying and won't make sense in a few years.

I get into a fake character. I don't talk about my hobbies in-depth "I do computer stuff", I look up some topical events before going to social outings, "yeah I heard about that". The most important one though is knowing when not to speak, like you don't want to correct people if they say something dumb you just go "yeah maybe" or something like that, don't agree with it just say maybe or "I'm not sure". Sometimes I will flatout lie, "No, I don't really play video games that much". Politics are also something to avoid. Everything that is talked about is just small talk or meta stuff like how they've been since I last saw them, etc.

I'm not proud of hiding my actual self but my outside character is pretty well liked and I'm not being malicious. I only ever talk about things like this with my friends, they don't seem to mind and do like me too but I feel like I overdo it sometimes, the things I like are pretty esoteric so I don't know how they would be interested. I try to be nice regardless of who I'm talking to so it's pretty easy to adapt to different people, I try my best.

Sorry to blog but you asked.

For clarity "this" means autistic nonsense, I don't hold back anything with them, I ask them to say something if I'm talking to much but they never do so I think I'm alright there. I didn't want it to seem like I play a character when talking to them, that would be disingenuous.

Hydrus Network is definitely the best for MANAGING images. It's more of a file explorer than image viewer.(Though obviously it supports viewing images).

I use Hydrus for managing my images, and have Hydrus launch Ifranview when I click an image.

I like Ifranview because it supports a shit load of batch operations/conversations/color adjustments. It's like a mini photoshop + image viewer, yet at the same time it's extremely lightweight.

>but gif/video support sucks for it.
True, I use MPV for gifs/webms/video though.

Together with Hydrus, Ifranview & Mpv, I have the ultimate viewing experience.

Most people I know use their phone for everything, I can't think of a situation they'd need to use my computer, if they did though I don't know why they'd be rummaging through my files, that seems rude.

Honestly though if they're in my room at my desk I'm probably comfortable with them, anyway, I don't have anything worth hiding, besides it's not like I keep my computer in the living room or invite people to my bedroom to hang out, I usually sit on my couch or go out to places with people on rare occasions. I'm pretty antisocial to be honest.

Not sure what you meant, but one of the best things about using mpv as an image viewer is that you get to use far better upscaling/downscaling algorithms than probably any image viewer that exists.

> I have so many images I'd need to tag
If the images came from a booru site or one of the "original" sources, then it shouldn't need to be tagged.

I probably wouldn't bother adding files that came from 4chan into Hydrus, since people on 4chan tend to crop/resize/alter and generally screw the original image, making it unrecognizable to hydrus.(It performs hash checks)

>I probably wouldn't bother adding files that came from 4chan into Hydrus
I wouldn't put most of the tags into the public tag repo but I would have local tags for them, for finding them.

>crop/resize/alter and generally screw the original image, making it unrecognizable to hydrus
The developer has talked about this recently and plans to add some way to deal with this, I think there will be some kind of fuzzy image matching that will make relations to images for exactly this kind of thing as well as derivatives. Combine this with optional p2p file distribution maybe with IPFS and you'd have an interesting system, imagine seeing one of your images marked as a derivative and you could maybe find the uncropped version or a higher resolution one that you could download to replace. I'm assuming there will be some kind of manual way of relating images too via tag repositories so users could help, we'll have to see what happens. I know they've talked about this stuff before but my memory is a bit hazy on it.

I was stating not bothering because the PTR won't recognize them, and most images from 4chan are considered 'diluted'. I prefer to do it manually then by all means

FYI these are not the same program.

I've never used infranview so I can't say. Features I like in ie, transparency support, always on top support, built in navigation, no ui, light and fast, hotkey for "fit screen" and "original size", wraps directories, portable binary.

Bad things: proprietary, not customizable, developer is apparently actually dead, no slideshow/autoscroll, no apng support (single frame only)

>>
>>55668283
If metadata is your thing Hydrus is good for that, maybe overkill for what you need, I don't know about XnView or what it does.

You mentioned thumbnails, does XnView handle thumbnails? I use Icaros for thumbnails but it crashes sometimes in giant folders, I'm looking for a replacement, especially something open source. Icaros is the only one I found that works on Windows.
>>

>>
>>55663822
They actually discontinued Picasa as an image viewer (probably because it wasn't popular enough), and they're turning it into some bullshit that even less people will care about.

Thanks Google.
>>
>>55668325
XnView is great for thumbnails. It lets you choose a thumbnail size in pixels OR the number of thumbnails to display per row. And you can also choose whether or not to cache thumbnails in specific folders and whether to process the entire folder at once or just the current view. And you can choose the thumbnail format (e.g. WebP for better compression).

XnView can do hierarchical tags too, but when it comes to metadata it will only synchronize the database with what's in the image. So if your images are read only (e.g. to preserve hashes) you're out of luck.
