It will linger on until Oracle completely shits the bed trying to wring money from it.

It won't die anon, its an excellent language to save programming hours at the cost of "low performance", but machines are so powerful it doesn't matter.

Real languages are only used in more serious important tasks, you should be glad, you will hardly see a pajeet if you use C, its too hard for them.

Hello CS undergrad

This.

I know a guy who's a COBOL programmer. He rakes in a shit load of money because old programs that companies use still run COBOL and need fixing.

C/C++ is the only language that seems to be actively "dying out." Though really all that is happening is that it is getting replaced by C# in most enterprise environments. Soon only systems developers will have to bother with that shit.

>still bothering with exclusively compiled languages

Computers are only going to get faster. Meanwhile our computational needs are only growing more and more complex. Interpreted languages are the future.
>>
>>55659801
Moore's law is pretty much tapped out. Computers aren't going to get all that much faster, barring some radically different semiconductor technology. Low-level programming will soon (in the next 20 years) be the only way to extract performance gains.
>>
>>55659627
In what sectors anon? Because I'm fairly sure that C is still going to be the language of choice for performance applications, unless C# has some serious bonuses I don't know about..
