Fuck AMD...
FUCK

How's that possible? Fucking 40W for just the monitors?

AMD magic

It's weird how they were fine with Fiji, but forgot about it on Polaris. Also, post high refresh monitors, Nvidia consumes a shitload of power on them.

Lack of optimizations?

>Multi-monitor: Two monitors are connected to the tested card, and both use different display timings. Windows 10 is sitting at the desktop (1920x1080+1280x1024) with all windows closed and drivers installed. The card is left to warm up in idle mode until power draw is stable. When using two identical monitors with the same timings and resolution, power consumption will be lower. Our test represents the usage model of many productivity users who have one big screen and a small monitor on the side.
It's like they chose a combination where Nvidia cards clock down memory and AMD cards don't. Because my 290X properly idles when I use 5120x1440@60Hz.

In all cases the core only consumes a few Watt. The power almost exclusively goes to memory. What makes AMD cards look bad is GDDR5 memory at full throttle, while Nvidia cards downclock memory in this particular setup. There will be setups where it's reversed, where both manufacturer's cards throttle properly, and where neither's cards thottle.
