Madshi is just mad because he wanted to make a premium/paid release of madvr but mpv was becoming more and more efficient on windows. Now madshi doesn't work on it as often as before and mpv is much more efficient even on windows than madvr.

Such a thing does exist and it was nearly completed by some /g/ guy. However, somehow this guy died and nobody picked it up because nobody was interested.

Reverse engineered what? The publicly available algorithms he used? Madshi did no original work except one case which he communicated. He made some modifications, some of them are known to be mathematically wrong though.

You can probably make a script to send requests to the youtube API that sends play position updates, so it counts the video as watched on the site, but I don't think this is something youtube-dl can do natively (I'll admit I haven't checked the man though).

Never mind, it totally does work, you just have to log in with youtube-dl (obviously).
So put in mpv.conf:

ytdl-raw-options=mark-watched=,username=USERNAME,password=PASSWORD

I'm not sure if there's a more secure way to do this, but it works.

you can apparently use .netrc files for authentication (and they support multiple services at the same time).
Passwords are still in plaintext, but at least they're not sitting in your config (and also not being sent to every site you open with youtube-dl)
