I have an old standard sim card I got in 2002.
The chip on it is a bit bigger than those on newer sim cards. Could cutting it to micro size still work?

Basically, 4G rarely works. I think that only certain towers broadcast the frequency that the phone can use. I've set it to 3G only mode and I am very happy with it, however. It's a great phone for the price.

I have cut mini to micro and mini to nano and micro to nano.
all of the electronics are way inside the center of the contacts. the plastic around the contacts is just plastic.
here is a picture of a similar smart card chip inside my transparent credit card.

just cut it carefully, don't cut too much off and make sure you don't end up with sharp corners, they can get snagged on the insides of sim card holders.

Galaxy S3 owner here, looking to finally upgrade.

After some research I decided on the non-edge S7 with Exynos. The only thing that bothers me is the non-removable battery. I hate getting jewed every 2 years for incremental upgrades, so I expect this thing to last me 4 years.
Will the battery be usable for that time?

From my experience with the S3, I had to replace the battery after 2 years of usage.

I have the OP3 and I love it.
Fastest phone Ive used (coming from a Note 5 that I sold to a friend because it got too slow over time), camera is on par with some high end ones, and the screen is not as bad as some people make it out to be. Yeah its 1080p and on the warmer side of color but I get on average an hour more screen time than my Note 5 did. And the charging time is literally the best.

I tried to install some ROM from here http://en.miui.com/thread-111957-1-1.html but it threw an error during update (in chinese) and now my phone (Xiaomi HM 1SW) only boots into MI-Recovery 2.0.1

What do I do? Another problem is that I can't connect my phone to USB cause that thing at the bottom doesn't work anymore (I use an external battery charger for keeping the battery working) so I can't just connect it to the phone and install something or stuff.

I've been using my 5S since its release, on T-Mobile. Speeds are good, but coverage can be a bit shit. The old stereotype about iPhones breaking easily isn't true at all. This thing is an absolute brick. I've dropped in on everything from marble to pavement, and, while its not in great shape, it still works great.
It fits in the hand well, GPU and CPU are still pretty good. Runs most modern games well, HTML5 support is fantastic, Safari speeds are great, and the smaller screen makes it easy to use one-handed, but watching YouTube or something on it is shit. Don't get it if you're going to be watching YouTube a lot. You're either going to break the thing out of frustration, or ruin your eyes trying to enjoy your favorite Let's Play series.

I'm upgrading to the 7 whenever it comes out, and, hopefully, the 8, next year, if it has what we've been hearing (OLED display, crisper screen, better resolution, much, much higher res camera, etc).

Having a 5" device with a (Slightly) better cpu and more moderate screen resolution isn't worth the loss of the micro sd card slot.

Aside from the software, the only real differences will likely wind up being the lack of micro sd card slot and the smaller more realistic screen.

From what I know, the display is alright. Not being AMOLED makes it inferior imo.
Camera is decent, but not having OIS or DIS makes it a jerky mess.

Check on xdev. There are a couple de-bloated ROMs, but I don't know what they're called, because Version and Samsung are shit.
Rooting isn't required. You just download Odin, pit the device I to download mode, and load the ROM on it.
If it fails and the thing won't start, or tries to boot, and never makes it, you'll need to reinstall the original ROM.

got a second hand iphone 5s from my sister, I want to sell it and pay maybe ~50$.

I can sell the iphone for around 250$ as its still in a mint condition, but the only decent androids around here in the 250 to 300 range are the Nexus 5x and the LGG4 but there's no fucking way I'm buying that with its bootloops.

The phone will know WHERE I am exactly, but I always get a "Searching for GPS" error. If I pull up Google Maps to start GPS driving, it will never properly give me turn-by-turn directions, it'll just locate where I am at the start of turning on Location services and will not update from there. Yes, I've downloaded & installed GPS Toolbox and tried that but still, nothing.

I require a good music app.

The z5c is doing GREAT with the 810.

The camera is amazing (coming from a nexus 4).
Perfect form factor.

No complaints here, but be aware of a few things :
- it can get a bit warm sometimes (nothing to really care about)
- Sony's rom is very OK, you won't have to use a custom one. Just go through the rooting process, install Xposed, disable the apps you don't need and you're done.
- 4k filming WILL cause fc after a certain amount of time (810)
- due to its shape, the fingerprints scanner isn't as easy to use as others. You'll need a few days to accommodate. (But it's location is well thought.) I hope you don't have greasy fingers.

I got it for 350€ online.
I don't regret it at all.

Right so I'm in the market for a new phone.

My budget is under £200, ideally around £160

Currently I'm considering a Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 3GB model or a Samsung S5.

Basically what I'm looking for is a phone around 5 inches, decent performance, good camera (relative to phones) and decent battery.

So I am a major Luddite when it comes to phones. I am finally going to ditch my indestructible "dumb" phone and get a smart phone. From reviews I have been reading I think the Moto G4 sounds about what I am looking for- plus some water resistance and able to take a bit of abuse appeals to me. Is this a good phone? Anything else you would recommend? I would prefer not spend more than around $200 US on the phone.

Also, if I bought a phone unlocked from a manufacturer or something, will I be able to use it on any carrier in the US? It kind of seems like Verizon for example only support phones that they sell.

I've thought about the opo3 but heard it doesn't do 60 fps on the stock os unless you add a custom ROM, if that's true then I'll probably end up with that. if not i also thought about the galaxy s6/edge.

Z1 owner here, phone finally kicked the bucket after surviving a lot of drunken rages and being run over by a taxi and going out cuz of water due to old flaps.

I was dead set on OP3 'cause I heard good things about it ("flag ship killer", etc.), but I'm starting to have second thoughts. Honestly, I just think its way too overkill for my needs. Right now on my Moto G, I can do (mostly) what I need; I basically use it as a portable music player and internet browsing device. I've started playing that Pokemon game (which it kinda lags in), but that's kinda an exception.

Anyway, based off what I've read in this thread, should I just go ahead and get a Redmi Note 3 Pro? Either way I'll imagine it'll be a huge upgrade over my current phone?

I dont wanna bog down the thread even more as I'm sure these kind of questions have been asked a ton already, but is there like a " Redmi Note 3 Pro how-to guide" ? Is it advised to flash custom roms (if so, which one?), where to buy (UK), etc.

Also is the camera decent? Again, coming from the Moto G where the camera is absolute wank, but I'd like to be able to take a few snaps here and there without looking like an absolute poorfag ... which I do right now :^) And I assume the battery life is gook (4k mAh?)

I dont think i need the extra RAM, All ill be doing is using it for music or stored videos on public transport, VR Porn at home, random internetting (youtube and shit) at home, the camera, Pokemon GO if i decide to get some mobile data, and maybe some shitty other games but i dont think anything crazy, because if i was gonna play portable games i would probs just play pokemon on the DS.
