I have lived in a small town my whole life. All of my friends are a phone call away, and we hang out all the time. We spend most of our time outdoors, enjoying the simple things - hiking, swimming, mountain biking, kayaking, star-gazing, having sexual intercourse with local "village bicycles" on piles of hay in barns. I have zero "online" presence - no Facebook, no Twitter, no Instagram, no PornChat, nothing. I don't need it.
On August 1st I will be moving to a big city for my new job. It's somewhat related to the media. I am afraid, that I will have to start creating all those bullshit social media accounts just to keep up appearances.
In your experience, how did social media improve your life? Is it worth it? Will I miss the simpler ways that I am so used to?
I am extremely hesitant, and, in all honestly, feel sorry for people, who are sucked into checking their phone notifications every 5 seconds...
Wat do?
Social media is cancer. I had a Facebook for awhile to keep in touch with high school friends. I was the unhappiest I have ever been my entire life while I had Facebook. It draws you in and makes you waste so much time.

4chan is social media. I find it makes me miserable but I can't stop. I think it's the constant sarcasm and shitposting.

thx fampai
The only social media account that might be useful is LinkedIn and that is mainly because a lot of employers list job postings there first before they put it on their website. You have a job lined up already, so not terribly important.
