I am literally using a keyboard that has "Made for Windows 98" written on the box, and it came with a floppy disk (which I can only assume contained the drivers for media buttons). Literally anything would be an upgrade

Is there a reason (some) keyboards don't come with lubed stabilizers, other than cost cutting? My Das Memeboard came with squeaky stabilized keys out of the box, and lubing was a pain in the ass since I didn't take the case off (voids warranty).

I just received some brown switches for my first Mech keyboard. It's definitely louder than my membrane one, just curious is the brown switches bump supposed to be noticeable? Cause I can barely feel it.
>>
>>55591150
Really? You must be mashing your keys! I have browns and can feel the bump quite clearly.
>>
>>55590688
with that kind of money i can just buy an IBM model m ssk or even a model m 13 and have a real exclusive keyboard and not just some over priced hipster garbage
>>
>>55591182
Exactly. HHKB is fucking garbage, idc what these retards say.
>>
>>55591177
Well I don't type lightly. I'm guessing that's just because it's a habit from typing on membranes for so long?
>>
>>55591177
you probably have gateron browns or type VERY lightly
almost everyone says the tactility in cherry browns is barley noticable

i don't think you would get blanks if you don't know where they keys are without looking at them
>>
>>55591225
Could be, I have to adjust my typing. I say adjust, I mean learn to type properly and not just ram down my keys.

>>55591229
Defiantly cherrys, and I defiantly don't type _very_ lightly. I have o rings on my caps which stops me bottoming out, I have also been making more of an effort to type lighter. I'm not saying the bump is in your face, but I can defiantly feel it.
>>
>>55591363
Pretty much everyone can touch type but its nice to be able to look down and refresh your memory if you have a brain fart.

Or if you work from home and actually get into stressful situations that lead to you occasionally cocking up while typing because this needs to be done within 5 minutes before we send the sheet off to the batch masters and oh my fucking god why is it not working.

It's not some elite thing and it looks retarded.
>>
>>55591299
Only when i need to input a long-ass password.
>>
>>55591503
if you're on windows you could just open on screen keyboard if you need to "refresh your memory"
>>
So which switch should I get if I want to feel the bump? I might return these browns.
>>
>>55591550
quiet? Clears
Loud? Blues or the stiffer greens
>>
>>55591540
yeah or you could like type "keyboard" into google
>>
>>55591550
gateron browns gateron tactile clears/zealios or cherry clears
>>
>>55591229
Or just an old board. Cherry browns used to be way more tactile than the ones sold currently. My old Filco feels more tactile than my gateron browns, while my new quickfire feels almost linear. Could also be related to switch position, as pretty much every backlit keyboard uses swtiches mounted upside down.
>>
>>55591204
there is nothing wrong with high quality all metal construction for a 60% keyboard but anything more than $150 is just too much

>>55592031
I use one at work, don't get it. The other guy was right, the stock caps are junk and they have this weird ass rubberized texture which wears off quickly and goes shiny.
The keys are non-standard so you can't replace them with doubleshot caps for example. Get something else and you'll thank me later.
>>
>>55591667

Pretty sure that's the only stock mech with a layout like that. The other options are customs that'll cost way more.

Okay, so I completed my most recent abomination. It's a Clueboard - Matias QC, v2 PCB, laser-cut acrylic mounting plate, stock FC600M case, Tai Hao ABS DS caps.

This is my first time typing on QC in a real way and my opinion is sort of mixed. I think I like the mechanism better than tactile MX (specifically, the 65g Zealios in my Compact SQ), but it feels sort of unrefined - maybe I'm yearning the smoothness of my Zealios? They're about as wobbly as a non-clone MX switch, and the noise is reasonable (though hardly silent).

The stabs are rattly as fuck, so I totally need to get some KY on here. No complaints about the layout so far, though I need to change some of the default key bindings. The fitment of the case with the PCB/plate isn't fantastic, sadly.

The idea here was to get a ~65% board that was light enough to take on a plane with me. Honestly, I'm not totally impressed - I like it and all and it'll be a nice board to keep in my backpack with my laptop for now, but I could see myself looking into something else to fill the role in the future. Sad that I'm such an obsessed, consumerist fag that anything less than near perfect means I need to want to spend lods more dosh.

>Most gamers today use Mechanical Keyboards as their preferred gaming keyboard. By placing your mechanical keyboard on an Extended Mat, the overall typing experience is significantly increased.
>On a mechanical keyboard, the surface material of your desk can vastly change your typing experience (i.e typing on a glass desk is very different as typing on a real, wood desk). An Extended Mat, will typically absorb vibrations produced from striking keys on a mechanical keyboard, and ultimately provide a more “solid” and “anchored” feeling when using your mechanical board. The Extended Mat’s surface also provides added grip, help preventing your keyboard from moving around.

Any Eurofag Model M owners ITT?

Are non-ANSI/non-QWERTY Model Ms rarer/more expensive than ANSI models or what?
I've been looking for one over here in yurop for several years and to date I never found one in the wild, in thrift shops or in garage sales.
And the ones sold online or on eBay ain't cheap (60+ EUR). Is that the price to pay for one of these?
>>
steelseries 6gv2 y/n and why
>>
>>55600367

ISO terminal/122s are the most common variant. British and German original caps are a bit rarer, but given how easy the Unicomp caps are to get, it's not a big deal.

That's just the going rate in Europe for a standard. I've found 122s for 30-40 euro, but very rarely 101s. Model Fs are a better buy in Europe, because they haven't caught on as much (but are better boards).
>>
>>55600429
Cheers, Anon.
I've been looking specifically for the 102 key AZERTY variant (hon hon hon), but yeah, as you said, I shouldn't even give a shit about the caps since I can touch type.
So 60+ EUR is the standard rate. I'll be looking for some Model Fs, never occurred to me they could be better value. Have you got any links handy? I'll be looking myself anyway.

The IBM Model F 84 Key AT does so long as you run it through a passive AT to PS2 adapter, then a PS2 to USB active converter (if you want USB)
The rest of the Model F's need to have their controller replaced with an Xwhatsit controller, though I believe XT to PS2/USB adapters can be purchased now. Long story short, they don't work out of the box, but can be made to work.

Don't know if you're UK, but you can find Model F XTs for $50 in US and pay maybe $30 to have it shipped.

They're native USB and NKRO too, but they damn well better be for 350 bucks.

There's only one NovaTouch board, it's not a brand, it's a specific keyboard made by coolermaster.

Hey /mkg/. I posted a little while ago about building a superior TEX Yoda style product. We have begun sourcing parts and have a prototype board in the works. Nothing new to show (for now) so consider this bullshit until we have our actual board to present within the next 4-6 weeks.

We have modified our design to be more similar to the one-off MX13 keyboard that was built by mtl (who makes the open source TMK keyboard firmware).

The current features for the first revision of the keyboard now look to have the following:
- Similar chassis style to (A) in the attached picture.
- An overall similar feel to a board that looks like (B).
- Mouse buttons and TrackPoint IV (the latest version, with negative inertia) identical to (C) in this photo.
- Backlit, fully programmable.
- ANSI Layout.
- TMK firmware.

The end product would look similar to (D) - I know, I have the best paint skills, no need to remind me.

We have sourced the parts we need to run a very limited batch of probably 25 boards and are working with manufacturers to get the cost down. At the moment the boards would cost between $300 and $350 to produce, and the majority of that cost would be the chassis and custom injection mold for the keycaps (we are in touch with Signature Plastics to produce these). We plan to bring these costs down when it comes to releasing the product to more buyers because our order quantities for parts will obviously be much higher.

The limited run 25 boards will likely be sold for $400 and will ship in October 2016 (these will be fully hand assembled boards prepared), and we're aiming at a $300 price for the first real almost-retail group buy/shipment/kickstarter ~6 months later.

Feedback please. Would you spend $300 - 400 on an assembled board with your choice of switches that looks like (D)?

We are also gauging interest in TKL or full-size keyboards.

It's not something I would pay $300-$400 for, but I appreciate the effort.

I don't give a single iota of a shit about clit mice, so I'm not exactly interested. That said, I am curious about a few things:

- What is the case material going to be?
- Are the three mouse buttons really going to be membrane?
- Why do you need custom moulds from SP? What are you going to have made (specifically)?
- What switches?
- Are you sticking to RGB backlighting?

Thanks

Case Material: Anodized Aluminum

Mouse Buttons: Not 100% set on it yet, but we're looking to copy the SSK2 design for the first iteration. We're working on making this specific part interchangeable for folks who may want to swap it out for mechanical keys or a new design we plan to work on in the future.

Molds: The TrackPoint will not fit in between normal keys, so we have to get a custom mold, which runs pretty pricey. We're adamant about having a quality product that doesn't use ghetto rigged self-cut keys, even if it's only for the first 25 set limited run.

Switches: That will be completely up to the buyer, we'll use whatever the buyer wants. If you mean brand, we're aiming at Cherry and may have Blues/Browns in stock cheaper, but will get whatever the buyer wants.

RGB Backlighting: The first run of 25 will be white backlit only (toggle-able of course), and after that we plan to have RGB.

How do you guys adjust to a board without dedicated function key row?
Seems like a pain.
>>
>>55607089
if you use your function keys THAT much just get a 75%
>>
>>55607071
>The TrackPoint will not fit in between normal keys, so we have to get a custom mold
Oh, of course. What is it, 6k a mould? Are you getting DCS? That shit's thin, but if it's your only reasonable option...

>but will get whatever the buyer wants
Look into offering Gateron switches, including Zealios. They're the hot meme.

We're looking at ABS DSA keycaps. We're ironing out most of the major details in terms of keycaps on Monday when we have our call with Sig Plastics. This is a big decision point because we can't just change our minds later.

Switches are the least stressful part of it all. That's no issue. MOQ for the keycaps and chassis is what's really fucking us right now, so we're working on buttering up the manufacturers in anticipation of a larger run in a few months.
>>
>>55607307
So you're not bothering with backlit legends, then?

Have you polled your prospective buyers to see whether they even want DSA? It's not for everyone - I don't like unsculpted profiles, myself. Can the moulds be used again if you want to have dyesubbed PBT produced?

By the way, are you only going to be offering this as an assembled board, and not as a kit?

Oh, and shopping around your case design to the various mech communities/cesspools is pretty important (unless you make it 100% like the Tex, I guess). You don't want to end up with some shit like MD's Al HHKB case.

I am actually preparing a survey this second to post to a few places and get some interest/buzz going. Our current feedback is from asking around real friends, a few /mkg/ threads and feedback on the TEX Yoda. We started this as a one-off hobby board but got some interest in making more so we're going with it.

Guy's I'm new and I want a good mechanical keyboard. I heard about the ROG claymore is a good?

It's the group buy life. I'm in Round 6 for Honeywell SA - I think it'll arrive just before Christmas 2017.

I've heard people say that Gateron Reds are actually better than Cherry MX Reds. How much truth does this hold?

kek

i bought the 60% hangul caps and some modifiers from them a while back and ended up ordering another set for my other keyboard

i think the real value here comes with the sublegends which are hard to find/expensive

kinda want to get a full sized just because it looks nicer

How are Cherry MX Clears for gayming?

You can always count on leddit for sourcing traps. I like that.

Alright so I just made my first keyboard from scratch.

It was a simple handwired setup, with diodes and such.

It's my first ever mechanical keyboard as well. Using Gateron browns on a 84 key setup.

Main problem is, my top plate is 3mm thick instead of the 1.5mm, and my spacebar stabilizer gets stuck VERY often. Is there any way to remedy this?
>>
>>55608225
you win
>>
>>55609199
Make a new one and try not to fuck it up this time
>>
>>55609199
get a new plate and not shit switches
>>
>>55601058

I backed out of this drop. I still stand by that decision.
>>
>>55593213

I'll take ten to put on random stuff
>>
>>55609199
Why is your spacebar at the top?
>>
>>55603014

I am using a Novatouch now. After trying literally everything else I feel it is the best all around board for me.
>>
Cheapest platform that has Gateron switches?
Or am I better off getting the switches by themselves on some other platform
>>
Why do some people flip the spacebar backwards? Does it feel any better?
>>
>>55598252
looks like shit. I'd rather buy from this guy

>>
>>55609546
some people think it feels better. I tried it for a bit. if you don't have a wrist rest and lay your wrists on the desk it works, but I didn't care for it.
>>
>>55609546
because other people do it, and they want to feel like they are in a superior le exclusive group

anyone who flips any of their keys has awful typing posture

no exceptions
>>
>>55609595
i do it because it feels alot better because i have shitty posture

not because i want to be part of some gay as club
>>
>>55601011
how hasn't unicomp done anything remotely like this?
>>
>>55609595
It's mostly Topre fags that do it, so that seems fitting.
>>
>>55609621
kek, no. mostly cherry brown users.
>>
>>55602336
They're from apple extended keyboards. You'll need an alps/matias keyboard, which I recommend anyway because the switches feel great.
