Net neutrality is not about consumers, it's about allowing services to pay ISPs in order to get better treatment, like bandwidth priority or free mobile data as in this case.

T-Mobile's offer is illegal because a potential competitor to Pokemon GO would not have this advantage therefore their product would be inferior.

If you think that's a valid logic is up to you, but it has nothing to do with what you described.

Yes, this sort of breach of net neutrality is a good thing but where does it stop? When we have free access to a facebook approved version of the internet and nobody knows of anything outside it? You may think I'm picking an imaginary scenario out of my ass but that's what was happening in India.
Even if it doesn't come to that, would you be willing to accept the possibility of being charged more for access to certain websites so you could get free pokemon go data?
Even if we ignore that, is this right or is this giving pokemon go an unfair advantage over other apps? This could very well stifle development of other games like it because people will stick to the one that doesn't use their data. Should your phone provider be able to shape the market in such a way?
