If you're using a 10 year old LCD, throw it away and buy a new one. You will save enough money on your energy bill in a few years to pay for itself, literally no reason not to upgrade unless you need the money for food or rent.

It's OK for typing text. But I bought few games on steam sale recently, and the experience is just cringe worthy compared to what I remember about playing UT99 on CRT. So I'm asking, do modern displays offer acceptable performance or just anyone but me learned to deal with LCD flaws in these years?

Yes, better upscaler, digital connections, more inputs, better color. Just buy the cheapest IPS panel monitor you can find and it will be a huge improvement. Old LCDs tend to have this piss yellow tinge to them.
