What's the most cost effective way to into iOS? Mainly in it for FaceTime and iMessage, but I figure a tablet would be a nice compliment to my Desktop and cell phone (Desktop isn't portable, phone is too small).

do you have a lot of friends that use facetime and imessage OP?

Yes, plus a living, breathing girlfriend. I figured that since I already have an Android phone and a Microsoft Desktop, I may as well go apple and get those features too.

What gen?

6th. It's the only one that is going to receive iOS 10 this fall. You won't get all the bells and whistles that normies message with the new iOS if you have like a 5th gen.

not an argument
Get an used iPhone 5
Looks fantastic, just werks, still runs smoothly on iOS 9, comfortable to use and carry around, etc

You can probably get an iPad 2 or mini for pretty cheap now. No idea how well they'll handle iOS 10, but should at least have FaceTime and iMessage support.

>cheaply
If you're poor/a cheap bastard don't get into Apples ecosystem. If the high price and obsolescence of old devices didn't make it obvious Apple and Apple customers don't want to associate with poor people.
