MSI GeForce GTX 1070 Armor - 499.00€
Gigabyte GeForce GTX 1070 G1 Gaming - 529.90€
MSI GeForce GTX 1070 GAMING X - 529.90€

Guys, which one? Thinking about going with the latest (pic related). Good idea/Bad idea?

I got the Strix one but then it came with coil whine. I sent it back and am waiting for another one.

>>

I liked EVGA back in 2008 and little bit past because of their customer service/promos (including Step-up program). Now they cut way back on customer service that you might as well go with the other manufacturers nowadays and just purchase a cheap warrant from newegg or amazon if you're worried about something going wrong.

Gigabyte's 1070s are shit though. The G1 is now the baseline model and has a noisy cooler and reference-grade PCB. The Xtreme is expensive as fuck and has been having major QC issues. The packaging they used bends the heatsink fans on the top right corner, and many people have been having an issue with the smaller central fan hitting the cooler. Gigabyte have fucked up badly with their Pascal cards.

The top choices are the MSI (either Armor or Gaming X, both use the same PCB), Palit/Gainward GameRock/Phoenix (same company, same cooler) or EVGA SC/FTW.

What do you guys think of closed loop water coolers that are just for the GPU? I have a Skylake i5 and those things don't really get hot enough to see a benefit from water cooling over a good air cooler (have a 212 evo right now), so I think I could save some money just water cooling the GPU.
>>
>>55492767
Strix has worked great for me (970) never had any problems
>>
>>55498471
I think you'll be fine with air cooling the 1070. I had a strix 1070 that was OC'd for a bit and it didn't go over 63C on stress tests.
From what I see, most people say that air cooling far outlasts AIO watercooling as well.
>>
>>55498498
Thing is I fell for the FE meme since I was impatient (don't feel too bad about it now that partner cards cost like $430 minimum). If I can bet a noticeable difference in over clocking ability with a water cooler, I'll do it. Otherwise I'll just live with higher temps (which aren't horrible).
>>
>>55498426
Those three posts were all me, my bad. Thanks for the compliment. I need some cable combs for the gpu. My next upgrade will probably be my monitor b/c I'm literally using a tv right now. After that, idk maybe an SSD or switching to Intel for the processor.
>>
Do you think a 1070 is a mistake for 1440p/144hz? Yeah the 1080 gets anywhere from around 10-20fps more so it takes fuller advantage of the higher refresh rate but the 1070 can achieve the same FPS with a few settings turned down and it's much cheaper where I live (and also seems to have better availability). I don't really want to settle for a weaker card but I also feel like spending $300 for an FPS boost I might not even notice is a pretty big waste.
>>
>>55498597
I have a 1070 and a 1440p/144hz monitor. I turn some settings down in really twitchy games to get 144hz, otherwise I just max everything out and live with 70-100fps.
>>
Already ordered a Niggabyte G1. I hate giving Nvidia jews money, but what's the alternative?
>>
I could Step Up from a GTX 1070 to a 1080ti if it comes out in 90 days?
>>
I will be objective here and say I do not like a single custom shroud for the 1060, 1070 and 1080 line up.

Must say it is a first for me.
>>
>>55498556
Damn.
If I were you I would look up other's experiences with OCing this on AIO. Assuming you can overclock it to the level the aftermarket cards are, I would do it.
>>
>>55496899
Yes - I'm not that poor bastard living in NZ but where I am it would be about 100 USD cheaper to import from amazon.com than to buy it locally. But I've heard mixed things about importing graphics cards, including customs holding them and demanding extra fees for processing and inspection and shit, not to mention the hassle if you have to send it back for whatever reason. But still, if they were charging $900 for one I'd definitely just import.

Gonna be upgrading from an r9 280x to a GTX 1070. Anyone make a similar jump? Was it worth it?
>>
>>55498990
Do you think that one will be cheaper because it's only one fan and uses a lot less material on the heatsink? Or more expensive because they had to re engineer the PCB to get it that small?
>>
>>55499040
I'm about to jump from of gtx670 to a 1070

Same boat. I'm on a EVGA 750Ti FTW. Waffling between an EVGA 1070 SC and a Asus 1070 Strix. I wish one of the youtube channels would post some shootouts between the AIB cards. Why in the world aren't they doing that?
>>
>>55499040
That's exactly what I did and you won't be disappointed
>>
>>55499139
I'm literally flip-flopping constantly on when to buy... I don't really need a new card now, but I want to get a new card and 1440p monitor for fall (mainly in anticipation of the new battlefield)

I almost submitted the order but I think I'll wait since primeday is this week and I might spend the money on a new monitor instead at this point
>>
>>55499139
You can get army free newegg premier?
>>
>>55499215
Yeah, they're running a promotion right now for free premier for a year for people in the armed forces/vets.
>>
>>55499225
I'm the only tech guy in my family, gona ask my brother to get in on it, he has been wanting a rig recently. Thanks.
>>
>>55499199
Yeah I almost feel bad getting rid of it, it's been a real great workhorse for the price. But playing at more than 60fps with all the settings turned down to minimum is going to be fucking amazing

We might start seeing more direct comparisons between aftermarket cards soon, they're still coming out after all.
>>
>>55492698
I got a Gaming X but I honestly have no idea how to activate the different modes.

I tried running the software they provided but it doesn't work.
>>
>>55499251
Yeah I feel like I really grabbed a gem. I'm still playing GTAV at 1080p at great framerates with... not max settings but textures maxed which is really the important thing for GTAV.
>>
>>55499199
Because of the way the GTX 1070 is there is almost no difference between them and you're better off getting whatever is cheaper from a manufacture that you want. Or aesthetics.

Only a retard would pay extra for the SC to take the cooler off of it. If you want a reference PCB for a block, you buy the absolute cheapest piece of shit blower-style card using the reference PCB, like the MSI Aero.
>>
>>55501564
When do you think the Ti models will come out? Definitely not in a rush since I'm using a 390 at the moment and will sell when I replace it.
>>
>>55501604
Well I was speaking generally but what you're saying also forgets factors like availability and regional pricing. Where I am you actually pay more for a partner AIB than a 'Founders Edition' and the other prices are also all over the place.
>>
>>55501604
Why is the FTW PCB better than the reference?
>>
>>55501639
Moe power phases and 8+8 pin power, slightly higher clocks. RGB lighting. They're very small things. I kind of wish I just bought the SC while it was in stock instead of waiting for the FTW.
>>
>>55501661
I can't seem to find any reviews on the FTW edition, just the tier below it. Did it just come out? It's available for 428.68 USD on Jet.com.
>>

Review articles may be scarce but there are a ton of video reviews on youtubes with benchmarks in them.

I'm just gonna admit to my own faggotry right now and say I got it for the RGB.

You should enjoy them both together in Ashes of the Singularity. It supports split frame rendering where you can run both at the same time.

What? What do you mean you don't only play Ashes of the Singularity? Uh... don't you know anything about gaming? Watch some benchmarks, that is the only game anyone plays. At least that's the conclusion I'd draw from the insane over coverage of that game.
